---Update to change flights from Warsaw to Krakow to reduce transfer time- thanks to owe for pointing this out!---

Zakopane is both full of and surrounded by beautiful trails with stunning views over the High Tatras. Although you should not expect hundreds of kilometers of downhill runs, there is enough variety to entertain you very well for a week. On your way to Zakopane you pass the ski area of Bialka Tatrzanska that was opened in 2001. The wide-stretched slopes are popular with the locals, because the ski slopes are lit until 22:00 at night. At the end of the working week a lot of Polish wintersport enthusiasts come to ski or snowboard here. The ski lifts are modern however, and slopes are nices and wide so there is plenty of space here. Bialke has a lot of blue slopes, ideal for beginning skiers.

Flights from Manchester to Krakow 4th February 2015 – 9th February 2015 £67 return with ryanair through Bravofly. There is no baggage allowance though. To take a small sports bag of 20KG its £50 each way. These flights were found on skyscanner.net:

Transfers by PolskiBus. Ticket costs 20 PLN .The journey takes approximately two hours. You can also catch a train but it takes 3 and a half hours and costs 25 PLN.

Staying in Hostel Willa Marysieńka double room with shared bathroom is 250 PLN (£50) and it is situated close to the ski lifts. booking.com/hot…7X1

Zakopane doesn't have a ski lift pass to cover all areas. There are 4 areas of Zakopane each with its own lift pass. Poronin is 70 PLN for a day pass, Bialka Tatrzanska is 95 PLN for a day pass, Witow is 75 PLN for a day pass and Bialka Tatrzańska is 80 PLN for a day pass. So you could do a day in each for 320 PLN which is about £62!

Board and boots 35 PLN for 1 day ( £7) so £28 for 4 days hire with GO ski! zakopane-goski.com/ski…tml

Total cost minus food and drink = £212 for a single traveller!

7.5 hour transfer? No thanks

Is there any reason to fly into Warsaw. A better option is to fly to Krakow from Liverpool. Bus is then around 2 hrs. Love Krakow.

Your post is very informative though OP. I am sure the long transfera are putting people off. Thanks

Liverpool flights in Feb are sound £60 return.

Transfer from Krakow to Zakopane takes between one and a half to two hours depending on if you use the train or bus. Flight prices are likely to be similar of not better. Hope this helps

added some heat as ive just booked myself for half term,
we go every year and love it , anyone wants further information feel free to PM or reply , love the polish culture in the Tatras.

few points worth adding to the thread.

Krakow is the airport not Warsaw.

loads of buses leave from the main station to Zakopane , you will need to get the bus from the airport to the main station ( the train line is being refurbed)

if you are new to skiing then Zakopane is excellent as it has so much to offer, however if you are a competent skier then it can be limited.

We go to Bialka Tatrazanska instead which has better skiing for our group , weeks pass is around £70!!!! and works on all the slopes.

also Hotels and Cottages , some quality places to stay for next to nothing , have a look on booking.com
we usually stay in a guesthouse , double room with own bathroom tv and wifi and breakfast £60 each for the week 10 minute walk to the slopes.

also worth just hiring the ski gear at the slopes , the guy Lech who owns the above has some quality gear and hes sound but its a pain having to cart the stuff back and forth , same price on the slopes and keep it in a locker if returning next day.

food and drink is brilliant , highlander food is amazing and i cant wait for this year , an example of prices is £1.20 for a pint (on slope) and around £8 for a quality 3 course meal

heres a few website links , this is a great site for all Zakopane info

this is a great ski resort for all the family

we have booked this year at half term for a family of 4 from ireland

17th-24th feb flights £320 including luggage
direct transfer with bus £20 return (drops and picks up outside hotel )
lift passes est £240 ( 2 adult and 2 kids )
ski hire £140 for all
accomodation ( 2 bed studio ) £300

thats a total of £1000 for a family of 4 all in

food and drink is so cheap , we eat all meals on the slopes and the finest restaurants , we estimate that standard to be around £400 for the week.

so around £1400 for a weeks skiing and all the food and drink we could want

compare that to buying 2 mulled wines and 2 hot chocs in France , cost €30 , in Zakopane , costs £5

thanks guys- I have just booked a week accomodation and flights in february.

In relation to the post above:
'direct transfer with bus £20 return (drops and picks up outside hotel )
lift passes est £240 ( 2 adult and 2 kids )
ski hire £140 for all'

how do you arrange these? especially the direct transfer? as my flight lands at half 11 at night so want to make sure I have something arranged before I get there.
- can you get lift passes and ski hire when you get there or best to book in advance?
