Buy branded for not much more any day of the week

dont know if anyone else saw fake britain where they tested a top end set of tyres and cheap ones that looked similar. From 70mph and braking at the same point the cheaper tyres were still doing 30mph at the point the more expensive ones had stopped at. After watching that I would stay away from cheap tyres

If you need for an MOT or to sell a car, I don't see the problem. But if it's my own life I'm dealing with, I'd rather pay a little extra. Costco has good deals, and if you don't like the tyres you can return them!

Kwik-fit are always expensive and full of incompetent nincompoops who'll tell you your brake pads, discs, and shocks all need replacing. I bet the £20 doesn't include fitting, I know an independent place that does Kumho tyres fully fitted, new valve and balance for a fiver more.

Not voting either way, but I went to kwikfit for some budget tyres, and guess what? They didn't have any in for my car - amazing really because they didn't have any the time before that either.

It will be £20 + Balance + Valve

The way I see it is tyres are what stop you falling off the road. Sure normally thats fine, you don't need to stop quickly. But what happens when someone stops suddenly in front of you, a child, dog or animal runs out front?

For the sake of another £20-30 i'd rather stop and avoid all problems you have to consider with poor tyres...

Cheap tyres are OK as long as you are aware you are on cheap tryes and drive accordingly and not like a TW*T

But for another £20-30 per tyre on top of your £20-30 you could get even better tyres, Where do you stop? Some people don't have an extra £80-120 for a set of tyres to keep their car on the road and legal. A new set of budget tyres are better than a set of bald or faulty ones.

I have mid-range Pirellis on my car and they are fine. A very expensive set would be better but spending more on tyres than the car is worth would be a bit silly. There have been times in the past where all I could afford were budget or part-worns just to keep mobile. In the current economic climate there are going to be a lot more people for whom that is the only option.

If you can afford it buy premium, but as has been mentioned even then you might end up with fakes.

That's a good point. Chances are an old woman in a Micra would be fine on budget tyres. However I could never recommend them - unless you want crap handling and stopping power of course - and when it rains and snows....probs best to keep your car off the road with budgets!! As others have said for an extra £20-30 you can get a decent brand with different class handling and all round capabilities. Something not worth skimping on.

And if you have anything with a bit of power then these are a no no, or you have wasted money on a good car as it won't be able to put its power down cleanly.

Because it's pure tabloid sensationalism and mostly contains half-a***d facts or he simply makes things up as he goes along. There is no research done, ever. This program should be on ITV or Sky but not on the BBC paid for by my license fee.
The last program on faked drugs was ridiculous. Scaremongery, no mention of the real reason for having (occationally) fake drugs in NHS circulation, which is due to penny-pinching and corruption.

Never watched the episode on drugs so cant comment there but if he just makes things up then why bother going to germany to test the tyres. Pretty sure it would have been a proper test

[email protected] the idiot defending fake britain.
This is a non deal- kwik fit dont do tyres for 20 quid.
I had the extreme misfortune to have to buy a tyre from kwik fit last month- it was half past 4 on a sunday.
Next day I replaced it with something better and checked they hadn't ruined my car with inappropriate jacking.
Kwik Fit are a joke rip-off company employing previously long-term unemployed morons due to a back hander from the government

This Fake Britain show, didn't watch it because all BBC consumer shows seem to be rubbish these days, but were the bad tyres actually fake, as in falsely branded as a premium brand? Or were they just cheap tyres?

Edit: Just Googled the show and found some discussion on a performance car forum. So AIUI they took some very cheap Accelera (?) tyres to Germany where Continental did a single test on a wet track in comparison with their very expensive tyres. The test amazingly found that the cheap tyres did not perform as well as the expensive ones. But the tyres were not fakes just cheaper alternatives to Continentals. What a load of old tosh.

Im in the motor trade and we call budget tyres FAST LANE FAMILY KILLERS.

They are cheap for a reason, you get what you pay for.

And then of course it wasn't the person driving or the tyres it was "oil on the road".

They never put 2 and 2 together and realise crap tyres make you slide!
