Off topic but try Alamo/BA - this gives British Airways and ex BA staff 30% discounts and generally speaking they never ask for any proof... I've known a few people use it and never had a problem. I did it year before last and no problem.... but as usual expect all the hidden extras at the desk!!

Last October I found Expedia found the best deal for Florida, saved hundreds of pounds over every other conceivable rental option (spent all weekend looking) ... I found going via TCB or Quidco added the same amount to the total as they paid back in cashback (how odd) so don't expect cashback sites to be much use.

Is it the US you are wanting to book? or another country?

I have been trying to book a car for over a week now. It is like banging your head against a brick wall. You either go with thrifty or budget and accept that they will rip you off when you get to the counter (check out thrifty's T&Cs and see if you can avoid paying the extra to get the excess to £0 - loopholes and caveats everywhere) or you go with an expensive brand like Hertz and pay through the nose. Hertz want £1000 for a passat estate at hertz for 13 days hire! That car can't be worth more than £18000 so they will cover the depreciation of the new car is a few weeks at that price. I can't imagine their overheads (taking out the purchase price of the car) are that high so they must be just minting money at those places. The worst bit is that is is about £200 to rent a VW polo (worth about £10000) and £1000 to rent the passat (probably less than £20000) - how do they work that out? It's just crazy.

sorry cold now, giving old puto £140 a week

I can't get it below £15.58 a day. The next size up is £15.86, so not much more. A pity they don't deliver and you have to pick up from an airport.
