I'm gonna have to decide on an external HD soon at around this price point. Any opinions on this one in comparison to the other ones that have come up lately?

I have had one of these hard drives for a couple of months now got my one for the same price.

Works really well would be happy to recommend this drive to anyone

Yep - I'd go along with that. Got mine on the same deal a while ago and really pleased with it. Recomended

Thanks for the pointer StuDaPoo and the feedback guys

Ive got this too - got it for the same price months ago. It hasnt given me any problems, and the auto switch off function is nice.

It is not as silent as I hoped though - although it does not have a fan, and would seem silent next to a pc, I have mine in the living room and it does give off a fairly loud hum.

Dave.

I've got 250GB version of it (WD drive inside) and it is well built and (sort of) quiet. The spin-down feature doesn't work with NSLU2 (if you don't know what it is then no need to worry) though.

Thanks for info. I wasn't expecting silence but not having a tiny 40mm fan whining is a bonus. I don't plan to have it in use all the time anyway, it's just a backup drive.

Similar price: scan.co.uk/Pro…634

(Although there'll be postage on top for anyone who didn't do their free postage thing a while back... Plus they're not in stock. But anyway, this is a good but not incredible price.)

Now just £64.99 delivered!

It's not much, but don't forget Quidco!

I have been looking for something along these lines. Thanks for the post and the feedback.

I have this one, had for over a year, wouldnt buy another.

Reason:

Keeps disconnecting itself, you hear a click from the drive and thats you, switching it off and on and it doesnt get picked back up I have to switch it off for a long period of time then switch on before windows see's it. Same on powering up the pc, Windows never see's the bloody thing, I've tried different usb cables, updated drivers etc but no joy, has a mind of its own and I cant rely on getting access to it like I should. I just live with it now

Its the same on another Pc btw.

Glad it performs for some folk tho
