Hello, The only problem I can see with the larger capacity drives is if they go wrong. Unless of course You back them up with another drive. I bought one of these based on the fact I have two Buffalo drives they are many (not sure how many, possibly 10 ?) years old and are still going. Not sure I should have said that ! Whereas the Seagate drive I bought only lasted only a couple of years.
Just my experience. for all I know Buffalo could be an entirely different company now, but I only found one really bad review.

True, but my seagates has been good for backup and works. Apparently my portable gold/white WD made whirling noise. I think all brand has there own issues and good points.
For you, maybe you use more of the seagate than the old ones, or just got unlucky one.
However, 10tb is new, hence I did not buy it, so I am waiting the technology to settle down for 10tb, just like the 4tb when it was introduced out, it had issues, so I rather wait for the 10tb another year or so. I dont want too many 4tb, but it is a good unit price.
