Can anyone tell me if this is a good drive? I'm very interested due to the silent operation and auto power on.

Also will it be Mac compatible?

Is it fast enough to stream media from? I know other drives have been criticised for slow access time. I'd be storing my music and movies on it (which are currently on my iMac) and streamed to my Apple TV.

If you go to this site:

buffalo-technology.com/pro…on/

you can see some more of the specs of the drive where it does say that it will work with a Mac.

It quotes the Data Transfer Rates as Max: 480 Mbps (High Speed Mode) and Max: 12 Mbps (Full Speed Mode) which I would have thought to be fast enough to stream media from. Sorry but I can't be more helpful than that as I don't use iMac and so don't have any experience with it.

I've got two of these - it is quite good. There is no automatic spindown, so OS must be configured to take care of it.
As to streaming to Apple TV, if AppleTV can't stream from USB HDD then it is ****. I've got Buffalo drive connected to Slug and can stream to 3 network players at the same time (2xXBMC+PS2).
