Great price

These cases are the best ones out there. Drive is whisper quiet and the case has proper connections for the power (not the flimsy ones that look like a PS/2 connection).

Fanless operation probably means an early death...

not so.
these drives get 5* customer reviews across the board, they really are very good & very reliable

does it have to be plugged into the mains or is it just USB powered?

Mains. If you want one that is USB powered you will have to look for a portable 2.5". A 1TB one is double the price of this.

It used to be horoscopes, but now I only rely on Amazon to run my life and make my decisions for me

If any HD needed a fan, then the manufacturers would fit on on the back. I somehow think that the heat issue has crossed all manufacturers minds and they have designed a unit to work when a bit hot

I can only see one good review at Amazon:
"Total Rubbish" is how one review describes it

The poster said it gets 5 star customer reviews across the board when it clearly doesn't.

yeah, but have you actually read why some folk gave it negative reviews ?

i'm not seeing anything that suggests that a lack of cooling fan = imminent expiration

Another example of where members of the public vote something negatively for varying reasons.

There really should be a site that just uses the price as the basis for voting & negative comments about the products can then be posted in the deal thread.

It'll never catch on though

Seriously, I have one of these hard drive units. It is rarely on for longer than 2 hours at a time, but it is silent, & does not overheat, in my experience.

I have ordered one but am having some regrets now. I have read 2 reviews where people have advised that the Hd failed after owning it for around 18 months and they have lost all their data. What I do now is the 500gb version has brilliant reviews from externalharddrives.org.uk/500…ve/.

OMG two whole reviews?

Does it say if the reviewers work for Iomega or WD, or do they mention knocking them over every five minutes since they purchased them?

Most hard drives will have reviews where people have had them fail.
I have owned several hard drives all of different brands and had a couple fail on me.
I'm in the market for a 1tb, but even though this is a good price, i only buy portable hard drives these days, i have had better experiences with them.

Hard drives fail, it happens.
thing is, most people don't jump online to write a review saying; " HDD is still working away quietly and hasn't died yet, some 2 1/2 years after i bought it. Win! "
people are much more inclined to vent when something goes wrong and say nothing at all when all is fine.

Waldolf u joker. It was 2 bad reviews out of 4 so 50%, lol. I took a chance and ordered it anyway. Hope I dont regret getting it as I could have got the Seagate one which also looks better for £55 from Amazon or the WD one for 56 or so from Tesco direct.

Just noticed it has been discontinued which means it is probably being replaced with a better one. Wish I hadnt ordered it now.

it sold out because it was such a good deal.
they're good, solid drives. i know loads of people who swear by Buffalo HDD's

Buffalo don't make the HD inside, so does anyone know what make the drive will be?

Any chance of it being a Samsung F2 or F3? LOL

Original Poster

i'm pretty sure that Buffalo quite often use Seagate drives in their desktop sized enclosures, so at a guess i'd say you'll get a Barracuda

(don't quote me on that though, i have been known to be wrong just every once in a while..)

Had one of these for over a year without any problems......... despite my daughter dropping it twice....an excellent and robust drive...wish I had seen it at this price before it expired.
