can I connect IP video camera's for CCTV surveillance?

Do you know what HDD are inside these? If it is WD Reds 3tb x 2 then it might be worth it. I dont want to get a seagate hdd and have it fail on me again.

I don't think these will be as there are 2 different versions on Amazon, the version with 2 x WD Red 3tb is considerably more expensive that the version listed with no drives named. Still a great price.

Why why why? A reason would be helpful.

I doubt these are red drives, unless this is a mega deal the red version comes in around £270 oO

I think these are the Reds.

I've bought a fair bit from Ebuyer over the years as I qualify for free delivery, if there are no issues with the product then I have never had an issue with Ebuyer. If you have to return something or have a faulty product then I've found their customer service to be poor. These days if it is a complete bargain I still buy from Ebuyer if not then I would choose Amazon as my first choice

These can't be the red drives, they show that as a separare product. No idea what these are, probably the green?

Yes. Just send the data from the camera to the network storage, Like any pc hard drive. Dont know about cctv apps

From the eBuyer Q&A: "Buffalo use Seagate or Western digital drives, but it can vary from one batch to the next".
Seems to be just 'regular' desktop drives.

I looked on the ebuyer website. Apparently it can either be seagate barracuda or WD depending on the batch. A bit of a gamble for me.

What is the speed like on Linkstation now as the 3 versions I've owned previously used Gigalan but were very slow and have been 10MB/s - 17MB/s (CPU in the units crippled). Have these got the pro versions side of speed.

[Edit] Specs indicate *100MB/s read and 50MB/s write so that's good as these a bit more pro than the Linkstation Live models.

Can you run these through your vpn? So if you wanted to get full speed / non-throttled on the built in torrenting or is it not sophisticated enough to allow that?

i buy over 20k a year worth of product, never had a problem, excellent service with any issues/refunds no questions asked, next day delivery on orders later than other suppliers. Aria, dabs etc all pale in comparison for stock & delivery.

Please be aware that buffalo have their own file system which will cause major headaches if disaster will strike. They are really cheap for what they offer but I just don't trust them (although I have an 8TB one). Write performance is pretty slow as well.

HP Microserver which occasionally sells for £80 + 2x3TB drives (or more) is the way forward.

I've been buying from them since 2003. They've always provided good service, but I haven't bought anything in the past 8 months or so and have had to return only a few defective items during the warranty period. Haev things changed?

A tad lower consumption than microserver though - although I'm guessing this is with no drives.

Power Consumption in operation 19 Watts
Power Consumption in standby 13 Watts
Power Consumption in sleep mode 0.9 Watts

..plus £80 + £140 = £220 (.. yes, I know you could then add more storage etc etc)

Hey guys, Im thinking about buying one of these for home use to store photos and video on. I would be connecting it to my BT Home Hub 3 and accessing it via wifi from my laptop. My question is what would the read / write time be like to this over wifi? It wouldn't have to be really lightening fast, I would just like it to load up the photos fast when I open a folder so i can view them.

Thanks for your replies

3 days on a HH3. You'll need either a HH4 or 5.

Sorry. It will be fine over WiFi for what you want, you'll get 1MB/s to 4MB/s.

When writing files to it when there are lots of small files in folders it will drop the speed though.

I bought one a while back and they were greens then... I'd assume they still are, but can't say for certain.
