Same price at Dabs + cashback too

Does anyone know the height of the hard drive pls?

Most of the 1TB 2.5" ones are 12.5mm thick. I need one like regular 9.5mm for my laptop.

Isn't the Samsung S2 - 1TB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive a better buy? £77.97 at Amazon and averages 5 stars (6x 5 star and 2x 4 star reviews) compared to the 1 star reviews from some for the Buffalo drive?

Good price for 1TB

Checkout the reviews first, unremovable partitions and software according to them.

1 TB = 1024 GB and not 1000 GB ...

I have the 500gb Buffalo drive and it's good. You do not have to use any of the software included and you can reformat the drive to 1gb (or any number of partitons you wish). The negative feedback on amazon is about the software and not the drive. I had no problem with the software but if you do, dont use it.

The person who fried their eggs on the drive has probably used a standard mini usb cable.

ONLY USE the ORIGINAL CABLE!

BTW, the Samsung drive for £77 is not shock resistant.

Can the drive be removed and installed in a ps3? I'm assuming its a 2.5" unit.

I have the 500gb version been using for around 9 months with a cable from poundland with no problems at all and formated it to 2 X 250gb partitons

I can confirm that this is shock resistant.
I told the hard disk that "my old man said be a city fan". The hard disk did not appear to die, break or otherwise show any signs of shock.

I'm very pleased with my 640GB S2, but I like the idea of the Buffalo being 'shock-resistant' - for the small price difference if I were buying I'd probably choose the Buffalo.

Very good price for 1tb usb powered...

Amazing! 14 replies and not one comparing it to a 3.5" drive!

You are wrong I am afraid as the CFSD Partition (that contains the software you mentioned) can never be removed and it is a major issue for people who want to use this to connect to a media player for example that won't be able to read the media if it picks up that dreaded partition.

Perhaps the message is finally being driven home?

Not sure if it was this one but I saw a 1TB Buffalo drive instore at asda today for £50, I'll check back later and post it separately if it's different.

That will be a 3.5" one...

Noticed that Best Buy are doing a Buffalo 500GB JustStore Portable Hard Drive (2.5") for £44.99 with 10% Quidco cashback. Approx £40.50 delivered - quite tempting.

I also have the 500GB version of this. Unless yours has a strange mutation, you'll find that the cable is captive so it's rather hard not to use it. Or do you mean an extension cable? The worst that could do would be to limit the power so the drive wouldn't be able to spin up. A fairly impressive amount of power from a USB port it would have taken to heat it up to egg-frying temperature in 30 seconds.
