I've got a readynas 4 plus with 8TB raid, would this be an upgrade? (obviously not just in storage).

Doesnt seem that great of a deal when you can buy 16TB + a Proliant Server, for less, that can do a lot more than just share files.

Pretty reasonable price for what it is. A bit of a stretch to call it enterprise grade though, definitely consumer spec equipment. A tad short on memory and fairly meagre processor. But if you're looking a good size of NAS which doesn't need a lot of power and aren't too worried about top of the line performance, this seems ok.

Yes I certainly would be mate! Go for it!

I have one of these. It's great for extra storage space but it's not particularly fast. Transfer speeds can be painful. Good price.

I bought a refurb buffalo nas with 2 x 500gb around 4 years ago for around £75, still going strong although I changed the hard drives last month to 2x 1tb

Agree with turret get a server and put xpenology or similar on it or stick a hd 6450 in it and use it as a TV computer, kodi, nas, plex whatever don't see the point in a nas anymore and buffalo drop products too easily so when something descent comes out you probably won't be able to get it but you can just reconfigure the server as needed

I can't seem to find the appeal for this. It's just a dumb NAS isn't it? No apps to speak of like what you'd find on a Synology or QNAP.

The Enterpise class bit amused me....single NIC and not even a mention of iSCSI support..it's a low end domestic NAS

XPEnology is headless so why put a GPU in it?

xpenology OR hd 6450 TV computer. My experience of Buffalo in an enterprise environment is very painful. They aren't that reliable in a basic NAS setup and access restrictions just don't seem to work very well. I'm not saying they will all be bad but I wouldn't want to be burned again.

Gpu if you plug into a TV etc otherwise don't it does say that

Amazing price for item.. I wonder if they have the western reds in there 4 x 4tb. Those disks cost 400 alone net... maybe more !

That's probably a Proliant G1610T server e.g. ebuyer £126 after cashback, plus your choice of 4TB HDD at £130-£145 per HDD = £646 - £706.
Search HUKD for FAQs on the Proliant.

Admittedly you could buy 5TB external disks off ebuyer for £109/piece but you lose the warranty and the hotswap ability with the Proliant server, still a good idea nonetheless depends what your needs are.

Are there any other deals on a smaller nas?

What are the make of the drives in this?
