Hi guys, this was posted a few months ago but the offer now seems to be back on. If you do a quick search on google reviews you will find some links to £100 free credit when you switch to Bulb energy, only valid until the 26th December.

They really are a great company, by far cheapest around when you take into consideration the free credit and their customer service is top notch!

***HUKD does not allow referrals so please do not post any here! ***

Started off as a good company with low prices, as their customer base has grown however, prices have gone up and customer service down.
Review sites show good reviews but only because, the reviewers are trying to encourage others to sign up via their personal links (shown in their reviews) . If you do that the reviewer gets a £50 incentive. Shady practice in my view and the review sites should ban such things, reviews cannot be unbiased if the reviewer stands to gain an incentive .

Was best price until they hiked prices around a month ago. Electric 15% and gas around 30% for me.
They even credited me what they overcharged /estimated in October and charged it back at the higher rate in November
Might be ok for some but works out £20 more a month for me £100 free be gone in 5 months

Yeah I’ve noticed a few price hikes over the last year, but even so, considering they are offering £100 to switch and you are free to switch again without penalty there’s not much to lose!
Please do a price check on the likes of MSE and don’t fall for the hype, they have never been the cheapest for three people who I look after their bills for even with any if the bonuses. And watch out their prices are variable as well, so can go up or down (yeah) at any time.
Was the cheapest when I changed in early May, but three price rises since, now marginally more expensive than others for me, but not that much that's it's worth changing again.
£100 was only yesterday from today £50
I changed recently and got 50 and the person referred me gave me another 25 for me its 2p different from what Edf was so win win.
Prices have gone up three times since January and crappy customer service
To lock in for a year or not to lock in for a year is the question?
They will have gone bust before you get the £100 like one select and extra energy.
I changed to Bulb, they are our cheapest option currently. No issues with customer service...processed my warm home discount which was submitted online in a speedy manner.
Also worth pointing out they will actually let you transfer the £100 to your bank account so can pretty much be treated as cash. There’s nothing to stop you switching, transferring the credit out then switching again! Personally I’m more than happy with them, especially their customer service.
I moved to Bulb through the MSE Cheap Energy Club in December last year, and they quoted £77pm for dual fuel (based on previous 12 months usage, which remains the same). In October I realised they hadn't been billing me for gas (as they'd not set it up correctly), at which point they advised my monthly payment would need to increase to £119.

A month later, they increased it to £130pm. Quite the difference from their original figure!

If you don’t mind constant price hikes and a poor overall per kWh rate then go for it
Increased my costs based on the previous household owners useage!?? They’re all liars and non of them kept their promise.
They were the cheapest this summer when I switched to them but with the price increase in October they were easily beatable. I then switched to Pure Energy and they put their prices up less than a month after I'd switched. Now I'm switching again to a deal fixed for 14 months -need a rest from switching ..

I switched away from them recently. Their service is very good but like others have said, they keep hiking up the prices to compensate for the referral credits etc. Most annoying thing for me was that they pit prices up the week i switched to them. I'm now on a fixed plan for a year via the MSE energy club.

Exactly the same for me too
There's probably a good reason the owner of bulb was selling up

Did you even read the full article?
I don’t think many realise that all companies hiked their prices up. Bulb buys gas and electricity from a supplier so it is out of their control. If the suppliers prices go up, so will bulbs. If they put your monthly charges up , and if you provide meter reads monthly then there’s a reason they increased your monthly bill. If you do not provide meter reads then the charge is estimated based on your neighbourhood average. This is a normal thing to do.

So as a responsible person do not complain, and believe what every company says you should pay monthly. That figure is based on estimated gas and electricity usages. To avoid this 1. Send in your meter reads monthly when requested 2. Check your unit rate prices and standing charges and compare those against other companies. Last time I checked only a few were cheaper by £20 per year. I have refered 4 friends and I have a credit of over £200 and still pay £50 per month. In summer I averaged £25 per month for a 3 storey , 3 bedroom house. Which is dead cheap. So be a responsible adult and you’ll see your costs will half. Bulb doesn’t tie you in so you can leave any time , and customer service is spot on. Best part refer them and you’ll make a killing!
Eversmart was cheapest for me through mse it all depends on where you live in afraid

Its month by month, no lock ins.
I cant seem to find the referrals through google reviews as mentioned in the description?
Cheapest for me. And being able to leave without penalty is worth the risk. They will have to give 30 days notice if they do increase prices.

Cheers, you're right. It looks like they're being removed shortly after being posted but I managed to grab one that'd just been posted. It's a shame they cant be posted on here as I'd rather a HUKD member benefited from the bonus rather than some random on Google.
Bulb transposed the Night and Day usage figures. Insisted on doubling the monthly cost. Patronising customer support. Had to send photos. They eventually sent a meter reader and then blamed the previous supplier (isupply). Some people win... I lost.

I'm with Bulb and can confirm the same thing - started off very low, about £56 per month and now paying £97 - I understand is based on usage, case-by-case, but I even still...slight exaggeration?

On that note - who do people recommend as an alternative? In the process of switching Bulb over to my new house but tempted to find another (cheaper) company - one who will actually do a smart meter as well!

Yeah, the Bulb smart meter promise hasn't really come to fruition eh?

Summer 2018, Autumn 2018, Winter 2018, Late Winter 2018 and currently...early 2019. It’s a joke.
Thanks for this. I just requested £100 back to my bank because I had 3 referrals and was sitting in loss of credit. Yes they have put prices up but haven’t they all? And I’ve £150 credit from referrals to soften any increase for now. I can also leave whenever I fancy.

I just did a quote with them and they are definitely cheaper - around £80 instead of the £97 with bulb and with a smart meter. Do they seem like an alright company?
