Mums-to-be First Class upgrade

Making journeys a little easier for expectant mothers.

Expectant mothers who hold a weekly, monthly or longer season ticket can apply for a First Class Upgrade which allows you to sit in First Class when there are no Standard Class seats available.

To apply, you will need your MATB1 form which is given to you by your doctor or midwife no more than 20 weeks before your due date.

To be eligible for the Mums-to-be upgrade pass, please complete our application form and enclose a copy of your MATB1 and current season ticket.
-----
i assume this `mum` term inology is an oversight.

men who become pregnant by whatever means should also apply for this benefit.

If you were in standard class and didnt at least offer to give up your seat to a pregnant woman, you deserve a slap. heat for the rail company at least offering this but there are still people who are in much more need of a seat i.e. the elderly and disabled.
Pregnant Men, please don't forget to pick up your Baby On Board badges.

Never see men wearing them, you are entitled to them, so Do It.

I suppose train companies should be offering a better service / correct number of seats in the first place, rather than relying on the poor old fare paying passenger to give up a seat.

Before hitting the reply button, I happily offer a seat when neccesary.
Knowing us blokes, we'd offer it to a "pregnant" lady, who is really just a big fat bin dipper, and get accused of all sorts!

So how do you know the person in the seat that you want to give a slap, doesn't have a disability or need for the seat? Not all disabilities are visible!!

Of course, you're right! But then, out of a full standard class carriage surely not everyone will be old / disabled, & could therefore offer up their seat.

All those 3 get some kind of 'benefit', whereas the standard person probably doesn't, and needs a well deserved rest in the seat from all the extra stress they have to go through

Why do people deserve a slap if a pregnant woman chose to get on a full train when she had the choice to catch another train where she could get a seat? Or chose not to reserve a seat when she bought her ticket?

Bin dipper
You wanna have babies??!?
Where's the foetus going to gestate? You gonna keep it in a box?
Any better offers for pregnancies that were conceived on a South West train?
Banned
The amount south west charge for a ticket compared to any other train company we should all get to sit there anyway ! They could always just run more trains , just an idea strange I know
I'll explain to my Dr. friend that I am pregnant with thought and expecting a brilliant idea any day now.

Good to see that chivalry is still alive and kicking
Positive discrimination..... There's nothing left but sex tourism for middle aged men these days.

No, I think you need a calculator!
If you have an standard class ticket and no standard class seats are available then you can sit in 1st anyway because the train becomes declassified.... Therefore I don't see this as a deal.

Not true on Southern at least. Only if overcrowded and explicitly declassified by the conductor.
If you are travelling with your pregnant wife, does she get bumped up to first class, while the husband has to stay in standard class?

Please do that on a South Eastern Railway train and enjoy your fine...trains aren't declassified just because they are busy. On SE Railway they are declassified where they are short formed (i.e. are booked to be formed of 8 coaches and turn up with 4) or there was a cancellation and the next train is overly busy (i.e. carrying two lots of passengers rather than one).
I was working on South Western trains, when a lady who claimed she was pregnant, requested her free 1st class upgrade. I asked for her to prove that she was indeed with child, to which she invited me to "feel the baby kick". In hindsight, I now realise she meant on the outside. I no longer work for South Western trains, but am considering a career in Gynaecology.
A must buy for all the pregnant men and women

It's within the passenger charter. Try it.... Walk from one end or the train to the other. If it's full and only first is available sit there. If the conductor comes and put the onus on him/her to find you a seat in standard... It's their job after all.
