wow what a deal can prices get any cheaper?

i wanna get a hd plasma or lcd, but i have no clue as to what all the numbers mean. i mean contrast ratoio 600:1 is that good or bad? its really confusing, i dont wanna buy something that is useless.

Contrast ratio is quite low at 600:1 as far as I know, so that could be one reason this is in the sale at this price. The rest of the spec looks good enough to me.

600:1 is quite low. The higher the number the better really. In simple terms, the higher the number, the brighter the top end colours will be and the darker the blacks will be, giving you a better picture. A low number like this could give you a very washed out picture. Just to put it into contrast (no pun intended) the current range of Samsung LCD tv's have a contrast ratio of 3000:1. You can get the Samsung one for £719.10 at Curry's using the 10% discount voucher bppod10 (£799 prior to voucher price.)

The Bush might be a good price, but if it's a crap tv then its a waste of money however cheap. You'd better putting an just over an extra £200 and getting the Samsung.

Matt

ok, thanks alot for the info

have you got the link to that samsung tv? thanks

Just a shout from the plasma camp - the Panasonic *60 series (dixons, pc world & currys - but may be oos at the mo) has a ratio of 10,000:1...... just to mix things up:

Aren't the contrast ratios measured differently for plasmas? Something to do with a dynamic ratio?

The link to that Samsung one in Currys is here:

That discount code still works, just tested it and don't forget that these codes can only be used for home delivery. Doesnt matter because you can add the code SALEFREEDEL to get the delivery free!

To be honest, i've never heard of that before, but that's not to say it isn't true as I am no expert when it comes to these things!

Anyone else care to comment??

I had to go this this site to find the full spec as Currys dont show the contrast ratio for some reason.

ok thanks, very usefull

im getting that the 10% off has now expired?

Don't think so, haven't checked though.

To correct a point on the previous page, having a low contrast ratio does not mean it's bad. There is no contrast comparison standard, so they can just throw a number out there. My Panasonic is 800:1 and the blacks beat any of this 5000:1 nonsense. It's down to the quality of the panel.
