Must admit I'm not sure about the "gold standard functionality" or "high quality audio output"!

Does anyone know if this has an alarm clock function?

What do you think?

I've got this stereo. Very good for the money - only down side is that it has a short fixed aerial which will only pick up DAB in strong signal areas. CD and aux-in work well. Doesn't have an alarm. Speakers are detachable so can be replaced with others (clip in type cable attachments rather than the posts you put the cable through)

Thanks for that. What's the Bluetooth like for range and quality?

Haven't used it, sorry (just use the aux-in with a cable so haven't got round to using the bluetooth!)

I've never seen those deals state that those brands offer good standard functionality, so you may have a point.

At least Bush is an established brand compared to the unknown Onkyo.

(p.s. just joking -if you're unaware, have a look at the Onkyo threads!)

If there is one brand I wouldn't buy then it's bush. Might be a bargain but it won't last too long . It might be an established brand but from my experience with it I would stay well clear.

It's the first thing i look for in an audio system as well.

I have this and agree with the comment about getting the DAB signal. The Bluetooth only works about 4 metre range.

has some very good reviews on Argos!?

Everything Bush have ever made has been junk. This can't be any different.

The reviews on argos are very good and one seems to suggest that this does have an alarm function? Heat added OP, good deal xxx

Gather up Onkyo fanboys, its payback time!

they think it was a joke - they made that pretty clear!

I don't think anyone is truly expecting gold standard functionality, nor high quality audio, but... it's... only... £29.99.
As long as it works, which a couple of people here states it does (OK Bluetooth range isn't great, but actually how far do I need my phone to be from it?).

If it doesn't last long, as some (non-owners) have suggested, it has 12 month warranty and my experience of Argos eBay returns has been very positive: print off label for free return via local Collect+ shop and then get a speedy refund.

I bought this unit from the Argos store a few months ago, I took it straight back as it was absolutely rubbish.

My experience.......
Awful build quality.
Terrible vibrating sound when playing a CD disc.
LCD window panel was not even straight.
Terrible sound, no bass at all.
Speaker wire is very very short.
Would not pick up any DAB stations.

Price was £59.99, then it went to £39.99 in store and now its £29.99 on Argos Outlet ebay. LOL

yep, me too. Need to replace an old Panasonic DAB radio CD player which we have used in our bedroom for yonks, and bit by bit different buttons are ceasing to work.
I have ordered, expect delivery tomorrow. If it is rubbish I'll return it, and let you guys know.

Ah Chump !
It's not the first thing I look for in a top quality HI-FI audio system of course, but as I want this to replace a similar set-up that we have had in our bedroom for ages.
The description says it has a sleep timer, I want it to wake me up, as well as lull me to sleep

In case anyone else is interested, it has arrived, and has dual alarms

So it fits my purpose fine.

That's good!

Could you please also share your view of its sound quality / overall feel of product build?

Right we've had chance to plug it in and have a play.
Sound quality is perfectly acceptable. OK it won't compete with a fancy Bose, but given that the speakers will be either side of our double bed in a room that has all sorts of stuff that would interfere with hi-fi sound it's certainly good enough, with a big volume range, DSP that does actually change the tone of the sound, and bass/treble adjustment.
So sound quality better than I expected for the price.

It comes in 3 plastic cubes (the unit & 2 speakers) they are all shiny black plastic. Nothing particularly pretty about them, but not offensive either. No rattles as we unboxed it, and no vibrations when we turned the volume up all the way(but it was standing on a carpet, not a hard surface). Cd drawer slides in & out smoothly, small buttons on the front don't look or feel likely to fall off. Only slight niggle to me is the speaker cables are quite short (12 inches or so).
Connected phone using bluetooth with no problem, worked fine. Didn't test what the range was though.
Dab reception no problem

My general opinion is that this represents pretty good VFM at £30, I'm happy I bought it. Would seem very average for £50, Defford overpriced at the alleged original price of £80+

Hope this helps

Did you not find the whole build quality to be very cheap, I found the buttons to have a hard rough loud click, not a easy soft touch operation.

The sound quality is all tone, the bass is a flat hollow sound. Bass drums do not sound like bass drums, the bass sound it has sounds like someone is being slapped. X) ............... its more like a pop.

When the CD was in operation, you could hear a humming vibration coming from what must be the CD motor.

Ours went back to the store.

I think you must have got a dud 'un mate, this one is nothing like you describe.

As I said earlier, acceptable standard of kit for £30

Cheers clumsymum for the review!
Received mine today, haven't had a chance to try it out yet, was purchased for my mum.
Will give it a test tomorrow, before it goes in her kitchen.....

I bought one of these several months ago, think it was £40 then. The DAB reception is really bad, I get much better reception from another DAB radio in the same room. The bluetooth works well, and that's really all I've used it for. The audio quality is probably as good as you expect. As pointed out above, the speaker cables are quite short, but it fits tidily onto a shelf.

Have one of these for a few days. for a £30 plastic stereo it's a good deal.

Build quality is fine, in a plasticy sort of way. (what's wrong with clicky buttons?) . sound quality is fine, considering the small plastic speakers. Yes, speakers cables short, but then the intention is probably that the whole thing sits on a shelf. It's not hard to extend them if you want. CD plays fine, haven't noticed any audible vibrations noise. DAB reception is fine for me, though aerial is a little dangly wire thing. Bluetooth works fine with my Android phone and an ipod touch. Some functions only accessible from remote (eg tone controls). But for normal operation it can all be done from the main unit.

No it's not a kick back and crank up the volume hifi, but for the kitchen, the kids bedrooms etc. it's a good little unit.

I'd recommend it, Gonna buy another one
