You would still have to pay £150 per year for the rip off tv tax.

And who got out of bed the wrong side this morning?
Some things are simply out of my control, dunny, but I'll see what I can do.

Sign the petition to scrap it would be a start I cancelled mine years ago due to them being biased and showing repeats and garbage. Its a good box if people do pay the tele tax

Already signed it! There was a guy in he Sunday Times years ago whose weekly column was devoted to it. Every week he goaded the BBC into taking HIM to court, a well known journo, instead of the man in the street, as he reckoned they would bottle out because of the publicity. Don't know what happened to him (!) but he was a bit of a hero to me.
Worth noting this isn’t wireless and required Ethernet cable connection. However this can be overcome by use of a WiFi extender with Ethernet socket
Not very good reviews for this model
Does it do non-freesat channels? If so are they in a seperate list than in the main channel list?

As someone who visits the USA often, the £150 TV licence is worth every penny. In many places in the US, you have 1 choice when it comes to a TV provider, and can easily be paying $80 p/m. For that, you get your channels and shows that are absolutely riddled with adverts. Everything that you watch here on the BBC, takes almost double the time in the US.
bought it last week works well a good buy for £95
Got one from CeX for under £40 delivered. Grade B but only due to no box. Absolutely spotless. Works a charm

I have a Goodmans which dies allow you to GI into the menu and search for non Freesat channels. Plenty of tips online.

Yes. It runs the identical software to the Humax boxes. You can put it into STB mode and manually add satellite channels that aren't part of the normal Freesat lineup. You can view freesat channels this way too, but the channel numbers will be all messed up and there's no EPG so not the most practical solution.

Never had a bad experience with them but expect every 2nd hand product to be amazing would be foolish.

For £35 plus postage I was over the moon with what looked like (remote and cables all in same condition) a new item.

But the 24 month swap over guarantee made the decision for me. Plus can pay with PayPal so easy win win.

For anyone considering these boxes - They feel like Humax rejects. They run the same software as the Humax boxes and even respond to Humax freesat remotes. But they have a big cooling fan put in the back of them that seems like an afterthought to deal with overheating (sub-standard Humax hardware maybe?) anyway if you use any of the Web apps or HD channels it really does get hot and the fan ramps up to full speed. Depending on the location of the box you may be able to hear the fan running over the sound of the TV it can be quite loud and distracting.

Sometimes fails to go into, or wake from standby without a few attempts to switch it on or off.

There's no Freesat ID so you can't use the app for it like the you should be able to do with this software.

Finally, the software for on demand TV is limited to only BBC and ITV, as well as the Bush smart TV portal which has nothing particularly useful available. Compare that to the Humax freesat boxes where you have most of the channels available on demand, as well as support for Netflix, TVPlayer, YouTube etc.

If you can pick up a (working) one of these at the CeX price of £40 it's great. Argos price is reasonable if you just want a basic freesat recorder, but if you have either used a Humax box before or want to use lots of web apps you'll be disappointed with this.

Yeah, thanks for that. Being that it s HALF THE PRICE of the Humax ,it's hardly surprising that it doesn't have the same raft of features, is it?
I did point that out in the description that this would be an alternative if you couldn't stretch to a Humax and given the dearth of Freesat recorders, it is. Sure it's not perfect, but even the Humax has it's well documented faults.
Picked up a 2nd hand humax for about 60 quid probably a better bet.

It would be and I would buy one......but WHERE?
CEX currently selling for £125 and selling on EBay for roughly the same.
Love to buy one for £60 if you could point us all in the right direction or, you know, post it.

You throw the BBC out, then the bathwater you will be left with is narrow corporate interests.

The BBC needs to be more accountable. It is politically biased, autocratic and dismissive of the requirements and opinions of the majority of the people who are forced to pay for it's 'services'.
With any other service, if you are not getting what you pay for, you have the right to walk away. The BBC has to understand this or it will, quite rightly, lose it's remit.
