Never thought a 2% lemon drink was considered beer these days?

radler is Dutch for cycling beer. ment for those cycling to go to a pub and have a couple of drinks and then be able to cycle onwards.

I **** out stronger than that

they shouldn't call it 'beer' but its not bad tasting. And you can drink several if you are driving afterwards.

I thought it might have been the cyclists fault! X)

Out of all the dodgy shandies the beer companies have tried to bring to market lately, this one's actually pretty good. Doesn't taste like watered down beer like some others. Good for drinking on a hot day when you're not looking to get drunk.

I first heard of a Radler while in Germany, from Wikipedia

Radler[edit]

Comparison of a Radler (left) and a Pilsner (right)
Radler (German for "cyclist") has a long history in German-speaking regions. It commonly consists of a 50:50 mixture of beer and sparkling lemonade.

In northern Germany, a half-and-half made of Pilsner beer and lemon soda is known as an Alster (short for Alsterwasser, German for "Water from the river Alster", a river in Hamburg).

In southern Germany, a mix of Weißbier and lemon soda is called a "Russ'" (Russian).[1]

The invention of Radler has been widely attributed to the Munich innkeeper Franz Xaver Kugler in 1922. However the combination of beer and lemonade is documented in texts dating from 1912.[2] Nowadays, Radler is drunk not only in Bavaria, but also in all of Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Netherlands, and Romania.

During the summer months, Radler is very popular due to its reputation of being a thirst-quencher.[3]

In New Zealand, the names 'reldar' (Radler spelled backwards) and "Cyclist" (the literal meaning of Radler) are used because a large corporation has controversially trademarked the word Radler.[4] It was trademarked by DB Breweries for their "Monteith's Radler" beer, which is a citrus-flavoured, full-strength (5%) beer.[5]

It's not a bad shandy.

Australian southerners the worst kind of southerners with their la di da shandy drinking ways. Geez mate toss another tofu burger on to the barbie will ya mate.

Laughing at all these macho lad comments about this not being "beer"....

When did it ever pretend to be beer!?

I prefer the lime and ginger one, but Asda tend not to stock it (only ever seen it in Sainsbury's). But it really can't be described as beer, it's an alcopop at best.

It's a pretty bad shandy, buy yourself some half decent lagers and a bottle of lemonade and make your own "Radler" whenever you want.

Just another marketing gimmick.

Curious as to what exactly is nice about the bucket?

Fosters usually tastes like p*** the Radler tastes really nice alcohol free version is normally £1 in home bargains. didn't see this deal in my nearest Asda yesterday it is a tiny Asda though

I'm not really a big drinker but I really like this stuff for its refreshing taste.

I buy from home bargains.
£2.20 for 4 x 440ml cans = £1.25/L
Opposed to Asda offer of
£5 for 8 x 300ml bottles = 2.08/L

The bucket is nice though so it's an option to be weighed up! CHEERS!

Probably a typo. It's an ice bucket, not a nice bucket.

To anyone looking to buy this beer, bear in mind that you only ever wonder why it is cheap once.

heat added....think I might need these as my other half has just said while watching "Godzilla" on watch+1 is that the film about the monkey :O wtf!!!!

most people will buy these just for the bucket...

Just go buy a one of them Flexi Tubs.
They will hold a lot more than a few bottles.

Nice heat added, I got a Corona Extra ice bucket with 12 bottles for £12 from Sainsburys last week

I agree.

I quite like this it's weak but really refreshing nice if you don't want to get hammered needs to be ice cold tho.
