Don't jail break the switch. Crazy stealing content that a team of people spent 1000s of hours to create, for a measly 30 quid. Where is the unlike button when you need it?

Jesus, even half price they're still a rip off

Nintendo make real games instead of unfinished, buggy, lootbox dlcfests

No fuzzy bitrate for me, but then when I use it I'll only connect to my 5G network. Anyhow it was used as an example to the guy who said try playing your pc games in high resolution when not at your pc. If you're using it in reference to the Switch then the emulators with local games will play titles at 1920 x 1200 anywhere on the go. So just as portable as the Switch but with better visuals.

Because like it or not some of us feel visual fidelity plays just as much a role in the gaming experience as story, sound, character building etc. In a world of high resolution TVs, phones, consoles and high end PCs settling for low resolution and dated hardware feels like Nintendo is being lazy. It's not like their console and games are cheap in reflection. Yes they make some good games, but damn they're few and far between.

Higher costs? Doesn't matter they "don't compete with sony/microsoft". Defects affecting users? "Not nintendo's problem/made up". New nintendo product that is essentially rrp? "Here have 500-1000 heat". People have issues with limitations? "Oh hey let's discount their opinion because it's a negative against the amazing Nintendo".Of course that doesn't mean you should resort to piracy for their new content, but Nintendo are hardly flawless.

The same applies to everything really; PS4 fanboys, insane PC fanboys, all of them are as bad as each other.
I remember the day when we bought a console for the games, not the specs or hardware; if it was for the latter, the Xbox One X would be doing great (of the three consoles). Except it isn't. And even the games that are console exclusive like Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3 and such haven't exactly been great....

Well the Xbox One X actually is a great console, it’s just that many don’t realise it. Besides being an UHD player, the Xbox has its key IPs, Forza 7, Forza Horizon 4, Halo MCC, Gears 4. Xbox Live is the best online service Barr none on console, plus with Microsoft offering £1 upgrades for Game Pass to Ultimate. Factor in that every third party title looks better on the One X, there’s a claim for it being the better value vs the PS4. I also bought a PS4 Pro and since finishing God of War, Uncharted 4, Lost Legacy and Spider-Man it just sits there collecting dust now. Granted there are some others that are clearly good titles, just don’t appeal to me.

The problem is once you game on PC you feel spoilt and everything else just pales in comparison.

The major problem with the Xbox One X is the same as the other Xbox One variants since 2016; the majority of those games that are console exclusive are also on the PC in the first place. The only reason I can think of getting it is for convenience against a PC; it's ready built and ready to go via plugging it in with no worries of hardware compatibility. Though the Xbox One S All Digital Edition is frankly a total waste of time and effort.

Otherwise for me, the PS4 and Switch combination is my preferred set up, as they both each have great exclusives while the PS4 can prop things up further with third party stuff (since they announce first-party stuff too far ahead in advance). Could they look better? Of course, but I'm not willing to plunge tons of money into a high end PC anymore for the sake of graphics; then again, not everyone is.
Hot! Got the last one Mario kart haha

I used to, but there wasn't many games that really gelled with me; I appreciated them a lot don't get me wrong, but I couldn't bring myself to love them cos they felt like they were lacking something the console games had (the ones not available on PC). And most of the games I played the most on the PC were on consoles anyway, albeit slightly better looking like Metal Gear Rising. So I just returned to consoles a few years later; yes they may not look as nice, but it's a lot more affordable for me and it's not like I'm gonna be like Digital Foundry and stop playing the game and decipher the pixel detail and such that Microsoft was hyping up years ago. Life's too short for that.

I agree, the Xbox One S was on a hiding to nothing. It was similarly specced to the PS4 but the Playstation had the exclusives that swayed people. Since the X came out with increased specs and enhanced game upgrades to 4K, it's started to shine and sales have picked up. With most Xbox exclusives now being made for PC there's little reason for people to buy the Microsoft console when they can build / buy a PC. Ultimately it comes down to convenience and cost. For most a PS4 and PC would be the perfect combo. Playstation has the exclusives, PC has the Microsoft games and Nintendo emulators.

That's the major problem with the Xbox One X, costing so much when it came out; the only benefit is convenience. The PS4 and Switch both have very desirable exclusives to just help sell themselves better than the Xbox. To each their own, but I still refuse to get Nintendo emulators
The absolute tragic nature of some of these comments. How in the honour of God can people still be arguing about the differences between Nintendo and Sony/MS in 2019?

Nintendo operate on a different field and are not competing with Sony/MS. They have the strongest first-party IP in the business and regarded as one of the most reliable companies in their native Japan for a reason. You know what you're getting with Nintendo. They compensate for lack of graphical prowess relative to their so-called competitors through their glorious art direction. Can someone really stand there and tell me Breath of the Wild is a bad looking game?

I wouldn't say that, though I would say it was incredibly overhyped. The style won't appeal to all. However there are clearly limitations to the device where there need to be sacrifices in visual quality and/or framerate, The krypt in MK 11 for example looks terrible on the switch. This is one reason why if a game is on multiple platforms, the switch will be the last option I'll pick, the other reason being cost. For those that appreciate portability, then that is also a valid opinion. I consider portability as a bonus only.

Imo the argument claiming that Nintendo does not compete with Sony and MS is a cop out.
gaming platforms all have pros and cons

lets just enjoy some great games and stop trying to put other people down

Think you’ve misunderstood the context of the debate. It’s not about console A vs console B, it’s about whether the Nintendo Switch is justifiable at £280 and £50-60 a game. It seems ironic that an emulator on PC can run pretty much most Nintendo games worth owning at higher resolution with better frame rate than the original hardware itself.
There is obviously going to be an 'original' mario kart coming for the switch. thats pretty much a guarantee at some point because its one of the biggest mario franchises.

Understandably these games takes years to develop and every single mario kart has been excellent in my opinion, so during their continual development would you rather not have something (a port) of mario kart which you can at least play in the meantime? seems to make sense to the millons of people who have already bought it

About the whole 'support the developers' thing, i watched a whole episode on BBC regards to game developers having to work expected 80 hour weeks (no extra pay) for their companies and the big wigs are the ones who get the £ in the end. although i think the culture at Nintendo will be a little bit different so i'm happy to hand my £ over to them
Is this offer still on? Doesn't seem to be working for me! It's saying there's a page error

Breath of the Wild is not a port. It was developed for the Switch and then ported to the Wii U and both were released on the same day. The port version was the Wii U version.

EDIT:
Granted Octopath isn't Nintendo but we could also add Pikmin and Animal Crossing to that list. Also even though it's not Nintendo proprietary you can only find Pokemon on Nintendo.

You've got it the wrong way round mate. It was developed for Wii U, it was in development for years. They then delayed it for one final year and in that time ported it to Switch. All you have to do is look it up if you weren't following the game at the time.

As for Octopath the PC version was released in July so it's not a Nintendo exclusive.
