Buy the Ring 2 (1080p) with the chime bundle for £159 at Argos

Found 16th Mar
Good deal for the new version camera(1080p) and chime included in the bundle.
Stocks still available last time I checked.
The ring camera on its own is still selling for £169 on its own.The chime is £24. Likely savings of £30 over other combo prices.
Could add a voucher or quicdco to get the price even lower.

I was contemplating buying this, but, now, holding on for a bit. Amazon has bought Ring and should improve its integration with Prime services - possibly, letting you store footage in their cloud for free if you are a prime customer. Plus, integration with Alexa will only get stronger. So, I thought I should wait for a few months yet. Let them work on the magic and we'll revisit!
This is cool but likely only something I will get when I am minted (Long way away )

Just got myself a Topop door bell from Amazon. Didn’t have a doorbell before so that’s an upgrade for me

Whats the difference between Ring 2 and Ring Pro - worth the £'s difference?

Split between this ready made door vid or a DIY job.
DIY looks a stack of effort to get same result (motion recording) but lots cheaper.

On initial outlay at least.
Wether its to the same standard of install ease tho is a different question.

The main difference I could see for the Ring vs Ring Pro
Looks like a traditional doorbell
Is wired only
Bit more advanced motion detection with programmable zones.
Not sure if it really warrants the price difference.
Am tempted by this, but have had a look at one recently and they look massive.
I think the pro can be wired properly into a power source if I'm correct. As I have the ring 2 and can only be trickle charged which means it's runs exclusively on the battery with trickle charging only.
The upshot?. . It has CCTV features and cannot be used for long as it drains the battery and kills the unit until it's trickle charged which it will do over days.
The CCTV functionality is great as you can use a pc or android phone as a CCTV monitor!.

Does that apply to folks who have CCTV, security lighting, warning dog signs too?
Why do these need a power source? Why can't they be solar powered???

They would need a lot more power than the solar cell could provide.
I have one as we get lots of deliveries and it is a big place so need a few chimes to go with it. When the button is pushed (or if you have motion detection enabled) it relays that to the server which then send out the ring (different tones selectable for motion/ring) . We have it set up so it brings up messages/sound on pcs (we have 5), it will ring any chime which can be anywhere ie another country/neighbours as long as its connected to wifi. We have 4 connected all around the place. it will also ring your iphone etc. Wide angle lens means it covers 90% of the front of the house and cars on our drive (which have been entered in the night and items stolen previously, this should record them trying it from now.).

We pay the £2 a month for the cloud storage which is a good security measure. Does a 30 second record if there is movement.

People saying easy to steal etc are idiots and dont know what they are talking about. I'm sure one or two might but then you have the video of them doing it and ring would give you a new one. Glad amazon have bought them out as they will expand it.

I did quite quickly add a transformer /real bell to the system as the battery did go down quite quickly (we are a home/business) so it got triggered quite a lot.

The idea is to buy things that you need at a reduced price. Requires a lot of self control though . I've spent more than my savings on things that I don't need. Ah well.

They can be solar powered and Ring also provide a solar connection if required.
