Now need to find the cheapest place to buy the actual software to make the most out of this deal!

what advantages does this have over (free) virtualbox?

Is this for Mac users?

I use Virtualbox too on the rare occasions when I have to delve into the Windoze world.
I can't comment about VMware because I have never used it as I have no need to.

I came on here to post this. Hot!

One question, with regards to the deal posted by orlando, in conjunction with this offer, how do you as at 2. above ; Scan and Attach your proof of purchase and serial number, if ordered online with Amazon, will Amazon provide a hard copy invoice when delivered and will this suffice?

The deal is available on the VMWare site: store.vmware.com/sto…GBP

Thanks Leigh. But that's the USA site, it's also not the same link. refuse2choose.com/reb…es/. However, this confirms that the link doesn't necesarily come from VMware.

But if you follow the rebate link and select "United Kingdom", you end up on the same site.

Leigh,

Like you i went to the VMWare website direct, which is a US site, clicked on the special offer hyperlink for the rebate on the front page which took me to a product specific page, clicked on the $30 Rebate hyperlink, chose the UK as the country from which I wish to redeem the offer, then links to a preferred language, clicked the Union Jack, which take me to the original claim rebate forms as originally highlighted vmware.promotionclaim.com/fus…tml Seems all legit to me!

Seems a legit deal! And I've gone for it as even at £26.99 it's cheap! So with the rebate it's awesome! I've been thinking about going virtual over bootcamp so nows the time to try it!

Parallels didn't do it for me and I've been meaning to try VM Fusion so many thanks

Does it mean the 4.0 is approaching soon by end of year?

AFAIK Parallels is the faster one, but VMWare is the more stable one, with the ".1" update bringing a massive speed boost.

Those of you comparing this to VirtualBox, VMware Fusion (and Parallels Desktop) are much faster and less resource intensive. If you do any serious amount of work on them then I'd recommend paying for either Fusion or Desktop as it will become far less frustrating.

In the Windows world I gave up on VMware (as it was getting bloated) and have been VERY happy with VirtualBox instead!

Folks - for those unsure about whether this is 100% legit, I got an email about it last night direct from VMWare. Unfortunately I purchased my copy 2 days before the opening of the offer. Ah well. Everyone else enjoy.

Just use TPB (The Pirate Bay) its free!

And the Unity desktop integration is way slicker than that in VirtualBox. Unless they've changed it recently the VirtualBox equivalent left the Windows taskbar floating halfway up my Mac desktop!

Another user here HAPPY with the FREE Virtualbox over the BLOATED vmware.

OK you go ahead and drag that file from the mac onto the virtualbox box, or take some time to set up the BootCamp Partition when its all done for you, or perhaps freeze up when inserting a USB device, and where is your support? Oracle? Sun? I can't remember they change so much

Great deal, shame I got mine a day before the Rebate (Thanks HUKD for that one!)

I agree, its bloated on Windows, but on mac its a whole different story.

For those still not sure this is legit here is a HTML version of the email that I recieved:

Just received it today based on this offer. Have my MacBook Pro plugged into a monitor running both screens... main screen is running OSX and the Mac screen is running Windows 7 full screen. It's absolutely seamless too. So cool O_o

same with linux - vmware server2 is mega bloated, virtualbox is much faster.

Sent my rebate off. Was awkward getting my receipt in .pdf and a picture of the receipt in a .jpg under 0.5mb, some weird restrictions

My copy from amazon arrived today and sent off my rebate. Easiest way to the receipt under 0.5mb is to scan it as 200dpi

Just got this, I had an email from vmware detailing this offer yesterday !
at £7 it's well worth it for me, to learn a bit about vmware and to get the direct X support ;-)
It does seem faster and more mac friendly that VB, the USB support for printers and Hard disks does not always seem to work on VB either.
Perhaps they've emailed all their free trial members ?

is there one manage to get rebate in their account....

Hi, not sure if this thread is still live, but i've still not had my rebate dating back to Oct 2010! anyone know how to contact them about this? Been on their website, but cant find any.

thanks

I've had a look through my email history and came across this email address: [email protected]clientmail.eu.com

Basically when I applied for the rebate, they sent an email confirming my application had been logged on their system. They also said if I had any problems/queries to email [email protected]clientmail.eu.com quoting a ref number that was in the email.

I've sent them an email saying its been over 10 weeks and I'm still waiting for my rebate, will post back what their response is.

Original Poster

Pleased to say I finally got my cheque in the post today. It was dated 19/01/2011 so may have something to do with the email I sent.

So for those of you who are still awaiting their rebate I suggest sending an email asking what the hell is going on.
