Whilst shopping in Tesco saw this on the shelf marked up for £10.00, which I thought was very reasonable, and as mine has just packed up it would do the job just fine.

On checkout, scanned through as £2.50, shame it was the last one on the shelf.

50m range, receiver runs on 3x AA batteries (not supplied) but the actual doorpush comes with its own battery supplied.

Bargain in my eyes.

I would have thought it should be easy enough to convert to mains if you can solder. Wire it up to a usb cable (including a diode in series will drop half a volt or so to make the voltage broadly similar to 3 x AA batteries) and get a dual port USB phone charger to power it, dual port so you can also charge your phone.

BROADLY SIMILAR! Jeeeez, I understand this site is all about saving money but taking a stab in the dark when it comes to mains electrics that is going too far. I don't think any money saved by doing that is worth the risk of a fire

Well Jeeeez yourself. A USB phone charger outputs 5 volts DC. You don't tamper with the charger, you plug a usb lead into it to use the 5V output. 3 new alkaline AA batteries are 4.5 volts DC, hence the need to drop half a volt, using a diode will give you about 4.3V. Obviously you'd need a safe UK charger, not one off of Ebay.

au contraire. all I need to do is wake up my trained high performance hamster give him loads of coffee in the morning and put him on his electricity generating treadmill. et voila !

You can't knock it!oO

they are a great idea until some little sod nicks the ringer and keeps ringing your door bell from down the road...

allright , till doorbell sees a passing shower /batteries run out / wireless signal gets confused with something else
