Licensing has nothing to do with anything, it’s all about intellectual property (ip) many big companies still own these titles and the characters. They haven’t released them for free downloads on rom sites, it’s just not worth the time and money to do anything about it, Nintendo Being the exception suing rom sites a year or so ago for millions because they had nes games (same era)

Good idea for the serious retro gamers, but if its just the nostalgia of the games then its very easy, legal and free to download an emulator for the Commodore C series computers and there are umpteen sites hosting all the games.
I actually download one last week and have been playing Crazey Cavy

A good deal and a reliable company to buy it from. I was disappointed I cancelled a pre-order, this was my first console and it’s going to sit under my TV right next to my Wii U and PSVR. Great games are great games regardless of how old they might be, Manic Miner & Elite on the big screen, hell yeah..!

I like how you made the point of emulators being legal then totally brushed rom theft under the carpet.

Most if not all roms are now free and legal as the manufacturers have released them for download.
Im obviously talking about the retro game roms and not newer ones for modern consoles that are still under license

But if you originally purchased the roms you download from a site on cassette or cartridge in the 80s/90s then you have a right to re-download a copy as you paid for that game
It's a shame they're the same games as on the mini version because I've already got the mini so no need for me to buy this.

I don’t think that’s how it works chief but you keep believing that. Terms clearly state that you’re not allowed to make “backups”
I own many Nintendo cartridges but I don’t see Nintendo allowing me to download a rom.
quite the opposite where I now have to re purchase the games digitally, again proving my ip statement.
just because a game is old, doesn’t mean it has no value and can’t be sold today.
im not here to argue but you saying all roms are legal is laughable, some maybe, abandonedware, orphaned software etc.

Right, as you are obviously bored and have decided to come on here and cause an argument, heres something to think about.
I..thats me, I come on here for a few reasons.
Mainly to try to make people laugh. I very rarely post Deals, but i do try to make people laugh with my silly pictures and comments. 3536 likes at last count.
I also come on here to save money and to find a bargain.
And i come on here to help people if i have the knowledge of their subject.
Why do you come on here ! Cause its none of the above.
Its definitely not to help people as no one has ever been prosecuted for downloading a rom as far as im aware, so legal or not, you aint helping anyone.

Because a site has $12 million For Nintendo to take. If they thought they could get that money from an individual then they would do that also.
it’s not financially viable to sue a single person when you can sue the site, get the money and thus cut off all the individuals in one swoop.

What’s the difference functionally (I know size differs)
This post is for retro gamers, I don't normally post but due to the present situation I feel the retro minded who would appreciate a keyboard due to the nature of c64 games those who used a c64 would agree!
Please remember this post is really for us old school gamers.
I do not wish for any kind of arguments due to this post.
Take care everyone.

It's the same, although the joystick on the full size one is better and the keyboard on the mini does not work at all (You can plug a USB keyboard in though)

Same thing. Activision own a load of iP from retro era but I’m sure it’s not worth the cost and effort to sue rom sites or they would do it. It’s still software theft if a company owns it.

I’m going to say I’ve been playing longer than most in this thread, starting with bbc and acorn. Soooo yes I’m a “retro gamer” doesn’t change the point about ROMs being illegal.

Good price the original C64 was £599 when it first came out.

Ahem - when you posted a deal a couple of years ago for the mini version. When people mentioned missing games like bomb jack your response was to add them via USB! When this was challenged by another person as piracy you came back with 99% of these games/Roms are abandonware! Why the change of opinion on this? Or do you just like a good argument? Is hot uk deals really the place for that? Talking of abandonware I bet you nearly choked when you saw the site for abandonware posted on here the other week.

Nah was it not $599? In the UK I'm pretty sure it was either £399 or more likely £299. I know it was more than the £139.99 for the Vic 20 I got!

That’s already been pointed out. I never said don’t do it or made any moral point of the rights and wrongs. Go back to my original post in this thread and just see I was making fun of you making a big deal about emulators being legal.
You could have said “I use emulators” but you had to add in “legal” which resulted in me poking fun at you.
well hopefully I kept you busy and passed some of your lockdown time by you looking at over a years worth of my bs posting.
