Does each game take 15 mins to load and if you cough while games loading a error message would appear !!!!!! Worth paying to see that again.Hot.
Shift + Run Stop. Press play on tape!
I spent hours on my c64 and the level of simple play suited me,sadly a lot of games consoles even the Mega drive where too much for my powers of concentration having so many button combinations etc I lost interest as it was too expensive for the games not to be able to progress from level one,I liked simple code masters games on tape which I think were £2.99 like Duckshoot and kickstart, and other games such as jet set willy and dummy run, good happy times

Is it any good?

Mixed reviews - engadget / Techradar gave it 3 out of 5. Bear in mind the keyboard is just for show, it can't be used.

If you really want to look at nostalgic consoles, you are probably better off investing in a Raspberry Pi and setting it up yourself. I know it takes a bit of time and buying a Pi + controller will cost a little more, but you have something that you can run many emulators, all on the one device. Unless of course the controller included in this bundle is worth it...

nothing beats the sound of the programme loading on tape - if you miss it like me you can listen to the Jesus and Mary Chain Gang albums for your pleasure.
Still have my original.
Apparently they are working on a full size replica, but at the end of the day these are only emulators and you can run an emulator on modern computer.

At least with some games you'd have had the pleasure of Invade-A-Load as compensation (you can probably guess I had lots of the cheap Mastertronic games!)

Yes, so annoying!
i bought one for £27 and I still regret it. The joystick is rubbish, there is so much lag through a normal TV its almost unplayable. I mean like almost a second of lag.

Its essentially a £27 ornament of what a C64 used to look like for me.

Thanks - I've 'been about' to buy a Pi, since the first one came out. It does seem a more productive way to it
Is this an official release or is it a knock off third party like the megadrive flashback ?
the games you get today, well they may be very flash but they'll never beat the thrill of getting through jetpac

hey hey 16k

I mean I have good memories when it comes to Commodore 64/500 but that is the past. I probably get exited for a day or so and that’s it.

Anyway, have fun for all those buying!
If they added the 5 minute loading times for games you muppets would sit there and watch it. there is a fine line between genuine nostalgia and pure idiocy.

Third party. Is why it's called a c64 mini not Commodore 64 mini
Hubbard and Galway etc al took care of any loading boredom.
Blast from the past here. Remember my 16K spectrum, the 48K was too expensive, spent hours playing Pacman. The good old days, maybe.
Games age far worse than any other medium. Hard to imagine this would be much fun if you haven’t already played a C64 when they first come out. I.e nostalgia factor

And and that’s coming from someone who likes retro gaming
Think I paid about the same for a second hand C64 many decades ago. How long does the tape take to load and can I make 'backups' using a back to back tape recorder?

Also would be good if it made that noise like a really twisted rave track whilst loading

Same with the Atari Flashback. I was gutted to learn that the input lag made the games actually unplayable. I had the wireless version so it could have been worse, but it went straight back to Argos
New one will be coming out soon with working keys, so better to wait for that
No Manic Miner and no Way of the Exploding Fist.

No thanks (although at least Winter Games is included)
This could of been better. cheap plastic used. There is another one in the works with working keyboard which is supposed to be the definitive C64 Mini.
Wait for game to load only for the “play” button on the cassette add on to pop up and nothing happen. Although making a “back up” of your games simply required a twin deck tape recorder.

pop into your local “computer club” and walk out with a C90 tape with 20 games on it.

It’s a third party product, they don’t even have the rights to use the name Commodore
Would spend hours playing manic miner on this back in the day!

There was a firmware update (1.08 I think?) that addressed the input lag and I find it perfectly fine now. If you've updated and still getting problems then it's possibly your TV settings, if you've got a gaming mode that reduces image processing then that's the way to go. The joystick is crap though, but you can use others with it - I picked up a Logitech F710 on ebay cheap for it.

You could still download them and play them, or any other games you fancy that aren't included, on this though.
5lugger24/07/2019 13:54

Shift + Run Stop. Press play on tape!

Then go have dinner, shower, see what's on all four channels of TV then come back to find it's crashed, rinse and repeat.

Kids don't know how good they have it these days!

I'd take Way of the exploding fist, spy vs spy, spy hunter and lots more over any of the modern stuff thesedays, gameplay was a huge factor on games back then even though most of them look dated now.

Put it on a USB drive and play from there.
Full size version with working keyboard coming soon - in time for Christmas I think.
