yay got mine 😁
I don't think its a bad thing countries growing soy, as long as the damage caused is limited. The case in Argentina sounds alarming, but its gone from pretty much nothing to a normal level for a crop. We grow about that much rapeseed in the uk and you don't see yellow field everywhere you look. Anyway, pretty much all chocolate contains palm oil. Green and Black etc will say its from sustainable sources, Cadburys like pretty much everyone else has always had it in the recipe, it's just not had to be on the packaging u til recently due to EU laws. They were bought by a big bad evil American company though, so it makes it that much easier to blame them completely and let everyone else off :p
Kind of agree, reducing the demand for meat would indeed help. But this is only a partial cause, there are many factors that contribute to it. China are the largest importer of soy and they have said they want to increase the amount they import by 50% by 2020. In Argentina alone in the last 30years they have increased the land used to farm soy from 38,000 hectares to 1.6million hectares. I think its good awareness has been raised about this by an advert an companies should look to reduce or completely exclude its use of soy. But again it is just a popular topic now, give it 6months an there will be a new evil in the world that people will be against.
I guess that's because of the Iceland advert. Was reading that less than 1% of the expansion of soy farming comes at the detriment of the forest, so 99% of new soy plantations are on already deforested land. Why would you go to the effort of cutting down trees and planting palm and soy when you could do it on already deforested land? Most of the deforestation is for cattle, for meat and leather. I think its great taking a stand, but there are so so many other things going on which are far worse it's weird that palm oil has picked up so much momentum. Not eating beef and wearing leather would make much more of an impact, but then again neither of those have such a great advert on TV and a new cuddly toy for the cause :p
When you put it like this it's a mile to my nearest & I have free parking permit for a car park in the center. Will I forget? YES
