Have just come back from a short notice holiday to Calabria with Titan Tours/The Classic Traveller which cost £249 per person for seven nights all inclusive (out on 4 Jun, return 11 Jun) - excellent value for Italy which is normally dear. Flights with Monarch Gatwick to Lamezie Terme, bags and transfers included. Excellent value - three meals a day and bar 1100-2300 included.

Slight negatives - hotel guests mainly German, rep German (working for a local firm which has been sub-contracted to provide this service).

This offer is still available albeit costs have changed slightly:

June 18 £279
June 25 £299

Then jumps in July:
July 2, 9, 16 £629

Sea view room £50 per person extra.

Same holiday with Cosmos/Monarch is approx £200 per person dearer.

Looks like a hot deal to me!

To be a pedant, albeit an accurate one, my comment was not racism at all - for two reasons:
a I made a factually correct statement with no criticism of German people - the guests are mainly German - fact - indeed if you look at Trip Adviser for the hotel (Myrf Apart-Hotel Rocca di Tropea) ALL of the reviews are in German except one, which is in French (I believe the reviewer was Swiss);
b Germans are NOT a race, they are a nationality!

The reality is that the hotel is currently more set up for dealing with Germans than British folk, though it did perfectly well with the latter as well. I am aware that some folk do not like to holiday with mostly German fellow guests, though I had no problem, hence my observation. My comment on the rep related to her adopting a slightly lecturing style that may have gone down well with German guests but certainly did not amongst my fellow Brits.....

To stereotype, the hotel is obviously aware of the potential problems with German guests as they have signs up banning the reservation of sunbeds and stating that towels could and would be removed by the lifeguard. To those who say that Germans have no sense of humour I must say I loved the two who had towels with "reserved" written right down their length.....
