Now now, intel invented TB3 and it’s ridiculous pricing is due to their initial licensing. Apple just made it mainstream by removing every other port
The licensing charge is being removed by Intel to help Thunderbolt gain widespread use. It may have already been removed. That's why these docks are getting cheaper each week. Hold off for a while if you can.

In theory they should be cheaper now. I think we'll need to wait for China to start producing TB3 chips for them to become truly cheap.

As a side note you can get a cheap TB3 dock by going for a Dell TB15. They were poorly designed and overheated like crazy so were replaced by the TB16. This means while the TB16 is about £400 the 15 is only £100. Cut some air vents into it, add some small heatsinks to the hotter running chips and it's great.
So much frost for a £60 (21%) saving... must be because I mentioned Apple
