The PS4 is the first console I've ever owned. Can someone please explain what are DLC and Season Pass? Its something I've always wondered about but been too afraid to ask!

Download content. It will give you access to upcoming map packs that get released (new maps, weapons etc)

DLC is a downloadable content that's not part of the original download/disk and in order to have it, you'll need to pay for it. The content could be anything as small as map packs up to extra missions etc. The season pass is like a prepaid ticket that will allow you to download all the DLCs through a one-time payment (rather than buying these separately).
Okay it seemed like just a way to exploit more money from consumers from expensive games. Now that you've explained it.....it seems to have confirmed in my mind that its exactly what it is.
Dlc is a cancer on gaming used to maximise profit by cutting content, alot of dlc comes 'on disk' meaning its there on day one behind a pay wall. Season passes are a way to guarantee future sales and reduce the risk of developing additional content by taking payment on a future promise. Both practises are poor for the consumer but widely accepted by the mass market.
As long as mugs pay these prices they will continue to rip people off! I paid for all map packs on Black Ops 1 but since then I have never bought dlc again. Its a rip off

Exploiting customers?

You're getting more content for a game you may already enjoy.

Cod games usually release 4 map packs, you can buy these separately for, usually £15 each, or get a season pass and it'll include all maps.

Just check what's available first however.
Activision are the worse of the lot when it comes to milking money from people. I'll never give them any of my money again. This dlc is still way overpriced at £32. COLD

Think his point is more that all content should be included in the original price paid.

It depends on the company to be honest. If it's like capcom who include dlc on disk at launch, then yes, it's companies getting greedy. But in CoD you get plenty of content to begin with, tons of modes, a great multiplayer and a crap ton of cosmetic items. I think they start developing the dlc once the game has launched

Not all companies are the devil in respect of DLC, CD Projekt Red gave most of theirs away last year with the Witcher 3 (albiet some was broken). 2K/Gearbox whomever develops Boarderlands is another example of quality at a low price. The problem is for every one good publisher there are dozens of bad ones... horse armour...

Totally agree with this, Black ops 3 has a tonne of content right off the bat. But the multiplayer is so excellent if you enjoy it yous be happy to get new maps to play.
So yes it's extra but the maps are generally very well designed and you'll get a lot of playtime out of it.
Also agree about Witcher 3 they produce good value dlc and you can't say the original game doesn't pack in the content to start with!
Come on man wheres the xbox love cd keys?
I liked that the Internet didn't troll the guy asking what dlc was. I'm surprised to say the least.

I agree that many companies such as capcom, ea and ubisoft have very definite cut content from main game to make u pay for a full game which is crass by no means. it shows that the game doesn't need to be reviewed on its own merits.

but with many things dlc can be a good thing, when it was an early console idea the likes of fallout 3 which basically had the main game which was 30 plus hours in terms of xp build up. then months later the company brought out 2 dlc packs which increased the xp level cap and brought very large missions.

in my opinion dlc shouldn't reflect that of the final game, the main game you buy should stand for itself. There's some games I've played where I'd love if they had added some content after.

games like Street fighter did this very bad, they basically cut half the roster. hid it in the game disc and was unlocked once you paid about 40% of the original game value. they also charged for extra colours on clothes which was always an option if yiu held different buttons when selecting characters. capcom also did this with another gane of there's. Can't remember the name but they had ryu in it and basically charged to have the ending of that game on there. bad practise. and it shows when the online community brandished them and ea in the worst company of the year

now with ea. they have become the microtransaction kings. all there games have these and in their defence you can play the game for gold coins rather than pay for green coins to buy packs in fifa or other sport games.
with this season pass you have to say do you love black ops 3 enough to want to pay just for multiplayer packs. I bought the complete edition for £80 on xbox one because I had about £35 free with deals so I paid £45 for it all so I'm happy about that. I enjoy the extra maps as usually there's 2 of them that is better than the main maps you get with the game

but..... they also generally use a map from a previous game which I find lazy. they should do the 4 original maps and have a previous as a bonus. again in the early days they released classic maps for free such as terminal on mw3.

they also have zombie maps which has all star cast and movies on there which add alot of value to many people as they play this more than the other campaigns.

DLC as a concept isn't a cancer. It can be a brilliant thing if done well, such as The Witcher 3's DLC.

It's the publishers who turn it into something cancerous. Ignorant consumers don't help either.
does all of the season passes for xbox one and ps4 come with the giant?
