not calpol, you get paracetamol but some children don't like it.

This can be obtained for free on the NHS minor ailment scheme:
nhs.uk/Liv…spx

The minor ailment scheme is for those who are exempt from paying for prescriptions (which includes children).

If you can afford a child then I'm sure a couple of quid for calpol won't break the bank ... Rather than take more out of the NHS when it needs it for those more in need.

Also you wouldn't get calpol you'd get a generic equivalent.

I'm more than happy to pay for mine when it's needed.

No offence, people should be made aware of the scheme of course, but only the generic alternative can be obtained for free:
When you or your child is actually symptomatic.
When the pharmacy is open.
At a pharmacist's discretion.

Or you could spend about £2, pick some up at a supermarket to use at you and your child's convenience, save the NHS some much needed funds and keep it as part of a properly stocked medicine cabinet.

Paracetamol is paracetamol, don't get conned into buying 'Calpol'. At 99p it's a good deal but at full price no way!

Paracetamol suspension, which is exactly what calpol is, sometimes you get calpol sometimes you get 3rd party only difference is the flavour still contains flavoured syrup with paracetamol

love this stuff

Calpol is blacklisted the only time you would ever get this is if the pharmacy have run out of generic and they were prepared to make a loss for the sake of patient care. The NHS will only re-imburse the cost of the generic suspension.

I think folk give Calpol if their kid sneezes. Bet they've never tried the cheaper, just as good equivalent.

Sorry to hear you all have pre-schoolers who hate generic brands.

When u been paying into a system that frankly has got worse. I will take what I have a right to take!! Don't think because your paying for cal pol your doing anyone any favours

Just bought for £1.99 each in Leeds store

Perfect for a cocktail? You wouldn't get a hangover as you would be taking paracetamol in advance and if you only have one or two you wouldn't overdose. I've never tried but I would like to. Loved drinking the stuff as a kid. Best mixed with vodka? :P

99p in Bamber Bridge & loads in stock. Limited to two per person though

I found out that Calpol is not as effective as Nurofen for kids.

Don't you mean that you find ibuprofen better than paracetamol?

No offence but why don't you go do something that requires serious money then? A major operation, months of treatment etc and get all your money back out that you paid into it because you are entitled to it. If it's getting worse, see what you get when you have no insurance in the US.

People are missing the point of the NHS and won't do it any favours with this line of silly thinking.

Oh dear, what an "entitlement' mindset.
The reason it has gotten worse is because of lack of funding, and you won't help that with your penny saving, abusing a system which is meant for those in need, not those who can't be bothered to pay a quid or so for a simple medication.

We look forward to you complaining more about how crap the NHS in the future because everybody has been getting calpol free on the NHS and they have less money to spend on more important issues. Alternatively, you will have to pay more into the system so that the NHS budget can be increased to recoup the losses from handing out free calpol to everybody with a child.

stubluebird1927

I work for the NHS, please don't waste your GP's time for Calpol, you are … I work for the NHS, please don't waste your GP's time for Calpol, you are potentially putting someone who NEEDS to see a doctor to the back of a queue of thrifty parents. Yes I know we all like things for free but please pay £1 for Calpol, you could actually be saving someone's life. Heat added.

You work for the NHS. Cleaner? Chef? Pen pusher? Whatever you do you clearly don't understand the minor ailment service for children. It exists to free up GPs time.

By the way just FYI paracetamol is for temperature and aches/pains. Nufofen is for pain as its anti-inflammatory. Just so you don't give your child the wrong medication. Also 99p £1.99 etc it's not breaking the bank. The minor ailment scheme is ridiculous so is GP surgeries dishing out free prescriptions. Country is screwed.
