Bought this last time it was on offer. Very good indeed. Lost it on a plane. Thanks op. Bought
Doubt it is for 'mobile users' . Didn't work with any of mine via otg. Works fine on Laptop however.

Did it work connected to your mobile?
Reading the product info on the website it seems this is for PC or Mac. While you could class those as mobile, the OP infers that it works for all mobile media.:{
My Huawei P8 doesn't work with a DAC but my P10 does, it may be because the P10 has type C rather than micro usb though.
Very good price. Worked perfectly with S6/S7. No idea about S8.

Yes. Used on my Samsung s7. Some don't. For example. Bought a nextbit and that didn't work

Its not the usb type. It's the device manufacturer for that device. They decide to enable it or not on android

THANK YOU! I've been waiting for this to be posted again at near this price range!

Second hand XS V2 in the last year was floating at around £80.
Just checked on Cambridge Audio's page: cambridgeaudio.com/gbr…-xs It's still £100.

I wonder if using the following cable I can use this with my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: amazon.co.uk/Sta…cro

Anyone here have any experience using this with an Android smartphone?

Can you post pictures of what cables/connectors you used (and where you bought them) if it's not too much to ask? Thank you!
Very hot, for £39 delivered.
I use mine for connecting an Intel NUC to Logitech 906's.
Great sound through this matchbox sized DAC!

Don't think iPhone allows otg stuff.

And the sound difference is a lot. Of course only appreciated with fairly decent headphones...

Thats correct Huawei P9 lite supports OTG but its disabled, so you have to root and then apply a patch. So that may be the reason some of the phones dont work.

I was looking at this with PowerAmp Alpha ( you need a music player that supports OTG) but eventually just got the ZTE Axon 7 for £170 (thanks to HTUKDeals) and it has a pretty good DAC out of the box. The dragonflys get better reviews than these but £39 is a steal.
Buying this and purchasing the Sabaj DA2 from Amazon to compare, keeping the one that suites my oneplus 5t better, If only all phones had dacs like the LG V30

To use it with the iPhone, you would need the camera connection kit (cck), and a usb power supply. Connect the cck to the iPhone via the lightning connector. Connect the Dacmagic to the cck and power the whole thing via the cck also. Then connect your headphones to the dacmagic. The iPhone will output digitally to the dacmagic, and the iPhone will show that the dacmagic is connected, but will only work if it is powered. Hope this helps
Hoping this works with my OnePlus 3. Seems like a bargain at £40. Thanks.
Ordered, heat. Would not have considered this

Works with 3t so why shudnt it work with 3
Single best sound improvement on pc and android, I used it with LG G3, Samsung S7 , REDMI NOTE 4 and worked with all of them. Everyone I played it to was blown away , especially when compared to the audio of other phones. Bargain price, I am sure it wont last long , if you like your music go for it.
Great little DAC which does work on Android depending on whether your phone supports OTG (works with OP1 and OP5 and probably also works if you run a custom ROM). Off to get a second tomorrow. Have some heat!
At this price range you have to consider the Dragonfly v2 and if you have some powerful headphones go for the red!
But a great deal on a tight budget! Good one OP, heat added!

Probably depends on what you're listening with. My HD650's sound very different on each, even the HD579's I picked up a few weeks ago from a deal on here sound very different. For me the Dragonfly is a massive improvement, but that's going to be subjective, and it is over 4 times the price so is an unfair comparison to make.

these are £100 everywhere, so there prices are pretty similar to the dragonfly Black, I compared them with my HD600 and Kef m500, they were pretty similar, not exactly the same but still very similar, ill be comparing them with the sabaj which has an even better Dac chip Ess 9018

I think this has been around£50 from Richer for a while before this latest drop though. I picked one up over 6 months ago. Might take a closer look at the sabaj, bit addicted to minute audio improvement

For me on the hd650 definitely yes. It could be a lack of power or just the sound they were going for, but I find the black rather flat sounding, less bass and detail to boot. Red and hd650 Are a good combination imo. Source can also make a big difference. What are you using? Being nosey
Arrived today. Currently listening to Reputation on my Beyer DT990 600 ohm cans. It drives them very well, pretty comparable to my Aune T1 which considering the reduced size and cost is commendable. I wish they included an OTG cable to connect to my mobile though

You should pick these up people.
How do you get them to go into class 2 usb mode? The instructions say hold + and - for 5 seconds but when I do that it switches off!

Update, sorted it now, needed to install a driver from Cambridge Audio website and change some settings in control panel > sounds

Cheers OP!

Can you tell me how you got it to work on the LG G3? That's one phone that I've got from your list, and tried it myself with no joy whatsoever.

Additionally, some phones that support OTG and USB Audio may still not be able to provide enough power for the DACmagic. That's the problem I have (my understanding at least), had the same problem with the original Dragonfly, but the newer models work.

I had issues at the beginning as well and changed the ubs otg cable and it worked. For playing music stored on the phone I used Onkyo hifi player as its was the only one at the time ( and now still most reliable and best sound quality) to officially support usb audio. Download the player , once you connect the dac it should ask you if you would like to use usb audio as default. If it doesnt ask then the usb otg is faulty. I have tested it with android 4.4 onwards so I dont know what version you are running. ( it even worked with cyanogen mod 10. something on lg g3). Do not move the cables about as it interrupts the connection for some reason , maybe I had the issue due to poor otg cable. To use spotify connect the dac, when onkyo player asks to use as default select "no" then open spotify , if doesn not work the first time unplug , close all apps and repeat.

Thanks. Using Android 6 on the G3. I will try another cable. The one I've got works with the Dragonfly, and any USB storage I try, so it's not faulty. I can get the DACmagic to power on using a Y cable, but that's not very portable. Will try that app as well. Have you used USB Audio Player Pro? How does it compare?

I use poweramp and the dacmagic was no improvement in sound quality to my oneplus 5t, so im returning it asap, getting the sabaj da2 tomorrow so cant wait to test it. I really dont want to pay more than £70 for a portable phone dac. If the da2 isnt any improvement i'll test fiio q1. My asus onboard audio card sounds soo good, i don't see anything sounding as good unless its above £200

I didn't really rate it either. It's a notable improvement for certain devices with poor audio or too little grunt to power higher impedance cans. But it's not as good as the Dragonfly offerings. For the most part I really struggle to get it working with any of the phones I have as well, so it hasn't had much use. If I wasn't so lazy I would have returned it too

Let me know how you find the other DACs
