Arrived yesterday, and it's a really nice lens :) And perfect timing with the eBay sell for £1 deal this weekend, to sell my v1 100-400L lens.

mamil1967

I’d been keeping an eye on the prices of those listed through their websites and cameraworld were consistently lowest I could see with their £100 voucher. Was hoping for someone to have 10% off deal or something but no joy. I think as the retailers know about this deal they’re keeping prices up as I, and dare I say you, would have probably have bought it anyway with the £600 off but £700 of was a clincher for me

mamil1967

Nope, third party sellers on Amazon are not included so no Cashback.

Brilliant camera. I bought mine the day it came out and still it's my main camera

TK42

Not sure what lenses they tested but you will probally need a better lens than this to get the best out of the A6000.

DocRobotnik

That's nice, but it's not a competition, and I'm not taking sides.

rs_tigerblade

Oh yea, it’s a smashing camera, video is great, I used it professionally before moving on to an a6500. The photos are great too but it is getting on a bit, sharper 1080p footage than the a6500 as well! Get a sigma adapter for canon lenses and get some nice glass and this can compare with a decent slr tbh/better video too

rs_tigerblade

Umm.. bigger sensor has nothing to do with pixel count.. the biggest difference you will notice is cleaner at higher ISOs and obv the DOF. also, for a zoom lens this kit lens is tiny! MFT or even better, a decent bridge camera is fine for an amateur though, most people wouldn’t get the best use out of this

coursemyhorse

Thanks for posting this Noggin. As said, there seem to be deals for 10% off Fuji lenses across the major retailers. However, the price for the same lenses at cameraworld are indeed a little bit lower already to start. Camera price buster is wrong currently for the 50mm at time of writing this stating £382 at various places. I just paid 367.20 using the xf10 code. I will claim the £45 cashback bringing it down to £322.20 That's about £100 off normal selling price or around 25%

mike1212

HDEW are 100% selling grey imports. The camera bodies come with 3 year warranty but it’s an insurance scheme where you use repair centres they choose and not canon. Camera comes with a little card outlining what you should do for a warranty claim.

bitm2007

It's £100 cheaper (£50 for some places) than the standard price for the buyer, but it's a £700 (£650 for some places) less takings / profit for the seller (assuming they are buying at the same price), as hdewcameras are taking £1299 from their customer compared to the just under £2000 that the retailers participating in cashback deals are taking from theirs.

easytigrr

Its not though.. it’s £100 cheaper (£50 for some places) than the standard price. Not £1299 less £600 cashback.

bitm2007

£1899 now, but effectively £1299.99 in a month or so's time but I get your point the initial £1899 payment would make a big whole in most peoples bank balance especially at this time of year.

bitm2007

They are ridiculously cheaper if you take into account that the retailer I've used in the past that sell genuine UK stock (Amazon.co.uk, Wex, Park etc) are selling this lens for just under £2000 less £600 cashback, but hdewcameras are selling it for a straight £1299.99. so effectively they are selling it at a price that is around 2/3rd of price of the retailers I trusted in the past.

Thanks. My 14-140 lives on the camera; I seem to remember it cost more than the body would have!

deleted1204383

Yes, the G80 is the replacement for the G7. Note it's also known as the G85 or G81 in some countries, so reviews may refer to that. It's not a huge upgrade from the G7, but does have a few nice new features. eg weather sealing, and IBIS, and a better viewfinder. Also no AA filter, which may make it slightly sharper. The 12-60mm lens is selling for about £150 at MPB. If you just have the 14-42mm lens for your G7, then the 12-60 is a nice upgrade. Gives you a bit more range, plus weather sealing.

terrestris

Yes, this is the replacement for the G7. Quick Google search suggests that the lens is ~£350 new - based on selling three copies of the standard Canon 18-55mm kit lens over the years you typically get around half the list price, but then I don't know what the resale market for Micro Four Thirds is like.

mrcommentator

You make some good points. There are still some reasons to go with the Panny. The Panny is better for 4K shooting, has a more usable stock lens range with weather sealing (body and Lens), dual optical image stabilisation, electronic shutter and has larger lens market. If you want a durable 4K camera to travel with and can work around the video slower auto focus I'd still go Panny.

Besford

I have a G7. Is this its replacement (ie not G8 but G80) or is it somewhere else in the range? I'm out of touch with latest Panny stuff. Any idea of the resale value of that lens? Thanks.

Same deal all over the place now

TZP1

That’s true. It’s cheaper...It’s an older model with older technology.Even for £1400....I still recommend saving more for the a7iii unless your are hungry for megapixels (landscape shooters etc). I wouldn’t say it is ‘exceptional’..It is cheaper than it used to be brand new and for good reason! Anyway at the rate Sony update systems there will be a mkiiii by Christmas. Also...same deal available at Park Cameras if Camera World becomes out of stock.

sparklehedgehog

But they're not the same price are they?! The a7iii is £2k and this is £1600 after cash back with a £300 light you'll get £200 ish on ebay for after researching so you end up paying £1400 for it! This is exceptional for the money

SleepyChris

OK...I looked it up...it does have a small sensor so my comment stands. I'm not flaming the camera or the deal...it has its place. It will be fantastic with enough available light or a bounced flash indoors....without the hassle of a dslr. I had a 18-200mm lens for my dslr...way too much zoom for a sensor that size...loads of distortion, vignetting and CA. This probably can manage that zoom range comfortably.

tempt

Like it when cameras come with a lens attached to them. Heated!

brilly

whats the point of commenting if you dont have a clue about the camera? the specs are available to at least give your post some credibility...

SleepyChris

With the size of that lens I’m guessing this is nowhere near aps-c...or do I guess wrongly? If it's the usual small sensor bridge camera gig then IMHO you can't compare it to a dslr. I loved my f828 bridge camera but ultimately had to move onto a dslr

mknotek

hi there, If you want to fairly compare, these are competitors: http://snapsort.com/cameras/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-RX10-II-competitors tbh, I am not fan of bridge cameras, but I am sure there are people for who, this is the best choice.

Jessops price matched Park Camera and my apologies was £1899 not £1800. Yes I see the thread is 4months old, just thought I’d share my experience, so if anyone like myself searches for deals based on keywords, they are able to see updated product cost information

brilly

where did you get it for 1800? also not really relevant in a 4 month old thread

FYI I just paid £1899 - £400 cashback - £40 quidco - £200 for the free light that came with it that I sold on eBay = £1259 for A7Rii! Not to mention I traded in my GX80 for £399. What a bargain, now to find a lens (lol)

I was swithering and now it's back up to £999. I have a Canon DSLR and a stack of lenses but want something smaller for travel.
