Panasonic Lumix G9 Mirrorless Camera Body £799 @ Camera World
157° Expired
Posted 27th JulPosted 27th Jul
Panasonic Lumix G9 body only. £799 is the cheapest I can find for UK stock at the moment, never used Camera world before but I'm sure someone will post some experience below

indeed it is a really nice camera. At the price it goes for these days and the brilliant MFT lens's its hard not to say its one of the best cameras you buy. If the MFT line is being killed off (ive noticed more and more retailers arent stocking them) itll be a huge shame, as i think for enthusiasts this is (Arguably) the best format and this for is price is the best camera in that format.

Got almost brand new off eBay for 625 GBP a few months ago. Nice camera - probably one of the best in terms of ergonomics and customizability and video specs for this price - sensor is good as well, but some days I think it is a bit of an overkill of a body size for the size of the sensor.... But with a Panasonic 50-200mm lens you wouldn't want any other camera than G9 :)

"All our stock is supplied by the official UK importer and comes with full UK guarantee, backed by us."

Still a very capable camera and a steal at this price. I paid well north of 1K when these were released.

The website says it isn't. All stock is from UK suppliers.

I had one for a while and regret moving it on. The weak point is the AF, which IS entirely usable but a little slow - but works with better reliability than the Sony 50 f1.8. Rendering is lovely, and despite owning a Zeiss 55 f1.8 I definitely prefer how this lens renders an image.

Decent price considering exchange rate and how camera stuff generally have gone up in prices over the last 12months due to various factors.

Is this site legit?

If you want an excellent portrait lens for the A6000 then the Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN (apsc lens) is pretty great. It's the equivalent focal length to this samyang when you apply the crop factor. I personally use the samyang 45 1.8 on my a6000 for portraits but this is because I plan to move to full frame when the a7iii is reduced. The sigma is better on apsc. This samyang will work fine on the A6000 but will be pretty huge compared to the a6000 body and equivalent to 127mm focal length.

Any comments on af in low light? I tried today, but unable to get any manual or auto focus. Lens comes in the way of af assist beam.

This is lens which gives great sharpness and AF is better then 85mm f1.4 GM. It's only little worse the Sony 85mm F1.8, but still is not this same boookeh This is superb price for another Samyang f1.4 35mm f1.4 also is one of the best lenses which you can get on A7 III

I couldn't face getting rid of my 6000 so I had it covered to full spectrum infra red...

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. There's so much choice that's its hard to know where to start or end. I think looking at the deal that was on last month maybe I'd be best waiting for now and have a look at the used market also. Thanks again.

A tough choice (if you haven't already made it). I actually went for the LCE package last month because I like the idea of a single wide-range zoom lens that I can leave on the camera and not have to bother with carrying around other lenses, and the hassle of swapping them (with the risk each time of dust getting into the camera). But when I got the camera (for the same price) from LCE, Olympus was giving away a free 45mm fi1.8 lens for new OM10 III purchases, and LCE was throwing in a spare battery. So the current offer isn't quite so attractive. You could go for the £399 deal and sell the 14-42 lens (it looks like you could get £50-70 for it on eBay) and buy either the Olympus 14-150mm lens for less than £300 second-hand (or £469 new) or the similar Panasonic 14-140mm / f3.5-5.6 lens, which Amazon are selling at the attractive price of £349 - except that they don't have any in stock and don't know when they will be getting them in. The Panasonic is smaller and lighter than Olympus (which is pretty compact itself) but unlike the Olympus it is not weatherproof (but then neither is the OM10). In terms of image quality, there doesn't seem to be much to choose between the two lenses. So, as I say, it's a tough choice. If you are prepared to wait a few weeks, Olympus might come up with some other deals in July. And I'm sure there are members of the HUKD community who would tell you that you would be wasting your money on an Olympus and should be getting a Fujifilm/Panasonic/Sony/Canon/etc instead. BTW If you decide to buy the £399 package from Olympus, if you go via TopCashBack there is a slight chance that you might get 7.6% cashback - although the T&Cs say that you won't get the cashback if you use a voucher.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I was looking at the Olympus one you mentioned as there seems to be a few deals around for that camera with varying lens offers. The Olympus seems to fit my needs better and I wont be using it for Youtube, I may use it to general holiday videos but expect both will offer good enough quality for that. Another offer I found is the Olympus with a 14-150mm lens for £599 from London Camera Centre. I was wondering if this is worth the extra outlay compared to the other E-M10 deals around

There are comparisons of the bodies here and here. The Sony is smaller and lighter and has a larger sensor but the Olympus has in-body stabilisation, giving a wider choice of lenses (if you want stabilisation). It also has 4K video resolution, although neither camera is ideal if you want to shoot YouTube videos. The cheaper Olympus package (if you're talking about this one) allows you to shop around for extra lenses within you budget (possibly second-hand) that are exactly what you want.

Appreciate the reply, but I didn't go as far as your response seems to allude to (superlatives). It was simply an observation and something also shared by numerous photographers for one. Clients can easily edit images for their end print/viewing requirements if needs be, but yes, with most phones, monitors and other viewing devices all different, it is a great pain. As for audio, well, plenty of albums I've heard are mastered dreadfully and can easily be discerned as such on average speakers and headphones. I get your point, but I'm not wrong either. And as I finished: a good deal for some here. But even basic and free adjustment guides (eg AVForums picture perfect) can make a significant improvement to a TV or monitor.

Same old argument for audio engineers using quality studio monitor speakers or "hifi" speakers for mixing. 90% of their listeners will be using uncalibrated cheap speakers or rubbish headphones so why bother making it sound good? I'm not a graphic designer but I've owned my x-rite pro since 2013 and used it across multiple TVs, monitors and laptops to get better colours and consistent brightness out of them. It has turned into a very affordable way of massively improving my viewing and reducing eye strain.

If you're graphic design or photography for print, these are simply part of doing business. If you're doing design or photography that will only be viewed online, you might have less of a use for one. Logic being that it's largely irrelevant how well calibrated your screen is, if your audience doesn't bother calibrating theirs. So while it's niche, it's a deal for some!

That makes sense then, thank you!

As the screen ages overtime, the colours can and do drift. In a professional setting (graphics design or photography) they should be calibrated weekly. I calibrate mine monthly. I still have the colour profiles from 2-3 years ago, and loading up the older profiles, there's definitely a noticeable colour shift from over the years.

Sorry, Sony

Are you asking about a lens for the Nikon or for a Sony like on this deal? I don't know anything about Nikon lenses sorry, for Sony the 70-350 G lens is expensive but supposed to be awesome according to all the reviews;

RaiKush what would you recommend for long range? Something that has good quality images for wildlife as I am travelling to Africa next yr. I have a Nikon D7500, but will return the Panasonic G80 I got from Argos.

It’s very soft. There’s much better options. I’ve owned it, I don’t need a blog to know it’s not very good!

The kit lens is alright in good light, and it's compact size makes for a nice pocketable package.

I spotted it now "VR" after checking my alerts, I bought a rift S and now looking for cheap games. I take it VR stands for vibration reduction not virtual reality.

By all accounts an excellent camera and sharing the Z lens mount with full frame was a wise move by Nikon, something Canon must surely regret.

I didn't get a notification for this deal and it is very relevant to my keyword alerts but then this is HKD so who knows.

If you read above you'll find I was the one saying this lens wasn't ideally suited for APS-C, with examples of why. As I said, it's a relevant conversation because evidently people do use it for APS-C.

So would you go and buy a zeiss 35mm 1.4 to use on aps-c as well?

It also fits APS-C cameras with the E-mount and many use it for that. It's specifically called out in the OP as well that it can be used for Full Frame or APS-C. Hence the relevance of the conversation.

Yes if it was with AZ Prime or Home J M the cashback offer would not be applicable, Camera Centre via Amazon is fine

I wasn’t sure about merchants such as AZ Prime or Home J M, No probs with Camera Centre they are a well renowned UK retailer in their own right.

Cashback from Amazon’s third party seller Camera Centre UK pay out fine as they are still an authorised Sony reseller on the cashback list- I bought from them through amazon in November and did the same today so there are no worries but does contradict what the notice says on the amazon site - but on their listing says the opposite lol. Buy with confidence as my claim in Nov was confirmed when I claimed 1 month after

I couldn't see that Amazon were selling this, it is on their website but only via 3rd Party sellers. Believe the cashback will only be valid if purchased via Amazon themselves. Get double cashback on Sony ILCE7M3 Body and Kit. You're eligible to claim between £40 and £350 cashback from Sony Imaging. This product must be bought from and not a third party merchant on the Amazon platform - please check before adding to your basket. Find out more.
