But it is a good product at a good price?

There's no way my wife would go in a tin, she'd want a chemical toilet and andrex.

i bought these i while back and i used them to cook in a fire like i used to do with my old ones.

these ones are like tin foil and metled lol. spilling my beans all over.

poundworld as well

Great if you have asbestos hands or like to pretend you're in 2nd para and have just taken Goose Green. Plastic gear much more pratical and easy to clean.

Good post - in fact though, Poundland has a lot of great basic camping kit for (surprisingly) a pound.

For example the cutlery sets that clip together, up to £5 elsewhere.
Multi-tools/knives
Folding/expandable water bottle (10L)
Tent pegs

All stuff that's really well priced but you'd usually pay a lot more for.

Yes, plastic's great when you're trying to barbecue or cook things in fire...

Mess tins are far more practical and fold up nicely - to get round the cleaning issue (from the hexy blocks) just wrap the underside in tin foil.

when you use hexy, just rub on the grass/ground and it gets the muck off with not to much fuss

If you're after cheap camping stuff check out Wilkinson's hotukdeals.com/dea…839

the reading poundland always has these around this time, when we go to the festival we always pick one up, if you cook on a camping stove or hexi blocks these are fine, ours took years of abuse before we replaced them. They also have £1 pillows, really useful if you don't want to take and ruin your usual pillows

The Left would have you believe people are cooking with these in their kitchens right about now.

Love to see you boil water/cook on a camp stove in plastic gear. Mess tins are functional and work exactly how they are supposed to. Never had an issue with the handle getting too hot either. In fact plastic gear would be bottom of the list, id be going for ceramic over plastic any day.

i use mine for cooking the onions on the BBQ a must for the forthcoming 2nd heatwave we are about to get.

Cold. you can get a whole camping cooking set from Wilkinsons for £2.50

No.... Quite the opposite actually! You should try it some time. You might actually enjoy it. It may also enable you to grow a decent sense of humour!! oO

this is precisely the attitude I want to end amongst the upper middle classes, the rich and the aristocrats. They need to be taught not to look down on someone on the basis if their wealth, I fear the time is short for such lessons to be given.

Time is short. Have you been following Fukushimanewsblogged? If so i agree with you. Be afraid, be very afraid.

I wonder, do the tabloid newspapers, so popular with the great unwashed, go soggy in a tent environment?

You don't have to be poor to be a camper.

Just painfully deluded into thinking that kipping in a muddy field & shlepping through the rain to a communal bog is a life enhancing experience.

Camping is great. It certainly should be part of the mix of any holiday accommodation.

It's lovely to hear the rain pitter patter on the tent in the night. Lovely delicious bacon on the stove in the morning. No electricity means no wasted time on ipads or computers or Facebook. There's very little need to book far in advance even in the best of holiday destinations and it's very affordable.

It's a myth that camping is for the poor. There were some fabulous cars owned by fellow campers. And some campers had a lot of equipment with them.

Maybe people that don't like camping are worried by the lack of a toilet in the middle of the night or the physicality of putting a tent up etc. Maybe people didn't grow up with it and weren't Boy Scouts or Girl Guides. All I say is give it a try at least once. If you don't like it fair enough.

2 for £1.50 at B & M

So, proof that some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. (_;)

Did lots of family camping in the sixties - it sucked then and i see no reason why it should have changed.

£1 for 2 in B&M.

Yep a great way to relax...crap in a box, eat from a tin and sleep in a puddle. Ahh luxurious. :P

Unless its at Silverstone for the F1, or Glasto then I really don't get the thrill.
