Not a bad price for 12 nights on a decentish ship - the suites are particularly good value, complete with butler.

Explore the sensational Canary Islands aboard Ventura

After three days at sea enjoying the comforts and entertainment on board Ventura, we’ll arrive at our first destination of Madeira where you’ll experience stunning views and vibrant culture. Check out the atmospheric caves and gilded chapels.

Next, La Palma, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote where you’ll discover endless stretches of beautiful sand, lush hidden valleys and towering volcanic peaks. Why not visit one of the stunning national parks or absorb some historic relics in the interesting volcanism centre before tucking into some delicious local paella on the strip?

After another day at sea, we’ll then spend a day in Lisbon. Don’t forget to check out the infamous gothic cathedrals and fascinating museums or just explore the many bars along the strip alive with music and charisma.

Then it’s a further two days on board Ventura, sailing back to Southampton where you can watch the winter sun fade into the waves.

So 9 days of hitty missy weather & 3 days where it's positively baltic....this doesn't make me think cruise in the traditional sense i.e. "Let's line up & G&T & head outside for a balmy game of deck quoits"

I've been on Ventura twice. Its a nice ship. Has the benefit of a pool that has a retractable cover. This is a reasonable price (but even cheaper here at £617pp

However I would not want to cross the bay of biscay at that time of year nor have so many sea days in weather that is going to be more miss than hit.
All I associate cruises now is with the story that passengers were advised by tsnnoy not to shake hands or otherwise touch each other for fear of spreading sickness. If just one person gets a bug, it's like being on a floating petri dish of bacteria albeit well fed and watered.

There's something in what you say (and you can always better the official P&O price by using travel agents such as Bolsover Travel) but it's reflected in the low price. There are better times of the year to travel, doubtless, but you pay the price.

As for the Bay of Biscay, it's unlikely to be any worse in December than most other times of the year - and there's a lot to do on Ventura on sea days (apart from eating of course)!
Thought it might be horrible in January, but its around 21 C with not much rain... tempted.

If you want something different try Celebrity constellation 14nov Athens to Abu Dhabi 14night throw in a couple of nights each end around £1kpp with drinks package and flights.
We did the Canaries cruise on this ship at Easter a few years back, ship is lovely - weather was less than kind storm force 10 in biscay, forced us out and around into the Atlantic - got to first port, Madeira after 5 days at sea :-)
