Need I say more really, some decent sportswear going cheap, and all profits for a good cause. Better than buying overpriced tat from Nike

You are so right what a good place to be buying your gym gear from.

I have worked for 2 of the spin-out companies from this dreadful organisation. I can tell you absolutely that whatever money you give to CRUK, most of it will not be spent on research. I have witnessed horrific abuses of funds by people that run these organisations. If you want to spend money on this cause, just go to your local hospital and seek out a patient suffering from cancer and hand them the money instead. At least all the money will go to them. Avoid CRUK at all costs.

I find that hard to believe. What with all the leading clinical trials they run.

I have given monthly to Cancer Research for years now.

I have to say, I have my suspicions as to where everyone's money actually goes with any charity, as I think a lot of registered charities are just a cover to line certain peoples pockets.

Obviously, we do see a lot of advancements in treatment, so I only hope that some of our money is being used in a positive way.

What annoys me with cancer research, is all the mail they send out, asking for more money and on many occasions with free pens. This is really annoying as all this must eat into the money that people donate.

yes unfortunately its true ignoring the fact the directors earn 240k a year, just google cancer research uk scam and its one of the worst out there.....pharma is big business.

Oh, believe me. They are experts are bleeding people dry with adverts and chuggers. (chuggers get paid £12 and hour irrespective of whether they sign anyone up). All this cost money. They have plenty of it for this sort of thing.

You find it hard to believe?? Try this for starters. What is a charity organisation doing running companies?? These companies are commercial entities with shareholders and investors and share prices. This is not what a charity is meant to use the money for. Then comes the executives that run these companies. One CEO I worked for refused to work more than 3 days a week for £74000 a year in 2001. Another refused to use transportation in London other than black cab taxis (including commuting to and from home). Some execs once needed to fly to Mid-Lanarkshire to visit another company. They refused to go the heathrow to get a flight. They refused train travel, citing length of time. However, they were happy to go to the local helipad and commission a helicopter all the way to their destination in Scotland. I have many more stories like this. But it should be no problem for you- as long as you keep paying them, I am sure they will keep taking your money for vital "clinical trials"

A start- up company I worked for in 1998 backed by the ICRF paid the CEO £125 K a year for talking. It paid its scientists between 18K to 30 K for real research in labs. ( I got 23 K) . I think that gives you an idea of where CRUK priorities lie.

Their clinical trials speak for themselves, and 1998 is nearly twenty years ago

All the more reason to give even more so that at least some gets through! Don't use that old nonsense to get out old giving to charity!

Yes, they certainly do research, there is no question of that. I showing you where most of your money is really going. Also, you are correct, that was 20 years ago. My last biotech was in 2007 and such abuses had increased. CEOs were paying themselves even more than £125 K in 2007 than 1999. Are you saying since 2007 till today, there has been a massive clean up of this scam called CRUK?? Trust me, there hasn't. I know people still working there today. If anything is it even worse. Today they specialise in making up job titles for people they employ that have nothing to do with research into finding cancer medicines on over-inflated salaries. Titles like Technology Transfer Managers, Transitional Science Executives, Business Development Managers. You tell me, what right does a "charity" have employing such people?? They sit at their desks and talk and talk and have coffee before more talk. It is absolutely disgraceful. On their salaries you could employ 3 scientists for everyone of them. Don't get me wrong, you are innocent in all this. They are the ones in the wrong. Your deal is legitimate. However, you are funding deviants whose primary concern is not finding anti-cancer medicines (that may be a secondary concern). Their primary concern for these people is paying themselves and their mates in made up job titles and living it up with your money you donated.

The short answer is that some does. But, the majority does not. For these charities, the bottom line to cancer it that is is not a disease......it is a business model. Hope you get well soon!
