Cold as its not from Halfrauds and isnt made by Boardman and its not even got suntour forks with thumb flick lockouts so it must be crap, apart from that its refreshing to see someone actually knows what a proper bike looks like.
HEAT

Heat too, looks like a sound bike for a reasonable price.

Great bike for the price, heat added
I have a trail 4 29'r and it's fantastic

100mm travel is never enough!!! Still good price though..

I picked up one these
halfords.com/cyc…015
as a 'usual halfords bike'. Wait for the regular 10% off days it becomes £450. Use a British cycling membership number for another 10% becomes £405. Use code readily available with a quick search on HUKD to purchase vouchers for another 10% and i paid approx £365 for a bike with 120mm air forks with lockout. Having ridden it extensively over the winter months on the Malvern Hills and Forest of Dean Trails, both red and blue, i would recommend it at £499. At £365 its a steal.
I dont work for Halfords and not voted on the Cannondale, looks a reasonable bike.

It's more than enough for me, as I would lock it out, or replace it with non suspension.

its not a downhill bike, move along nothing to see.

500 for acera alvio coil fork components? delivered disassembled in a box..at this price range surely an air fork with sramx5 or deore stuff is possible

£500 for a bike?
Could get a car for that

"Better than your usual Halfords bikes.."

In what possible way? The Carrera Fury is currently £430, down from £600, has better shocks, better gears, better brakes, better tyres, and equivalent components everywhere else.

Furthermore, was awarded "Best mountain bike under £1000" 5 years running in MBUK. Impressive since its actually now £570 under £1000.

This is pointless badge snobbery, where youd be willing to ride an inferior bike just so you can say you didnt get it from Halfords.

You say in your summary "Perfect for anyone getting in to cycling"; For anyone getting into Cycling, get a Fury, Use the £70 change to get a helmet and some gloves and go and get it muddy. Anyone who tells you that youve got a Halfords bike is a **** and doesnt understand the basic spirit of mountain biking.

Seems about on the money for the component spec. Not voted one way or another.

Original Poster

please enlighten me on the carrera fury spec

"The Carrera Fury is currently £430, down from £600"

Where? still shows £599.99 on halfords online.

It's a good deal for this bike. Not sure why the need to dis Halfords bikes when the biggest issue is their lack of ability at building bikes, not the multi award winning bikes they sell.

Don't entertain him/ her cicobuff, they'll go away soon enough.

from my own experience I would say halfords are a joke.. my bro bought a Carrera from them, halfords built it as they are supposed to be the experts.

2 days later i am riding it and the front wheel came off causing me to damage my front teeth and face. lucky i wasnt killed as was on a main road. if there was a car behind could have been much worse.

I wouldnt go to halfords ever again!

The snobishness is strong in this one.

It was £430 (£429 to be precise) in store in Blackpool yesterday - I dont have a pic.

@Kobashi
I cant defend the quality of the engineers at Halfords at all. I bought my Fury from there a couple of years ago and the cranks were only on finger tight. As with the mail order deal from Pauls Cycles it would be a good idea to go round and check every single nut and bolt yourself.

@LukeST
Fury spec is available on the Halfords website.

Troll???

Just an opinion

This is brand snobbery at its finest. Nothing wrong with Halfords bikes particularly the ones that keep winning awards.

I have the SL2 29er - great bike for the cash.

Heat for this.

decent spec, heat given.

It's just because they pay these companies to get rewards. Rewards mean absolutely nothing.

Completely agree with this. I bought a GT MTB from Halfords many moons ago, but put it together myself as the guy in the shop hardly knew which end of the spanner to hold. Used it for a couple of years and sold it on ebay for just £60 less than I purchased it for years before. Great bike that got me into cycling ...

The Boardman bikes they do now are great, and it's really good to go and sit on a bike before you buy it. Although, if you have an independent LBS then pay a little extra and keep them in business

Halfords. The thing that got me the most is when they were sawing and filing my new forks steerer while it was installed on the bike.

How does this compare to the Voodoo Bizango?

Doesnt have a pump or lights or even saddlebag...not interested.

No complaints from a Boardman MX Comp owner purchased from Halfords 6mths ago. If you can't go round your bike checking all the nuts are done up or adjusting the gears etc, you're gonna have a few problems later on. The Board

Carrera over a Cannondale eh .........hmmmmm

Carrera over a Cannondale eh .........hmmmmm

If you wanted a fun car would you choose a 1.0 litre VW Golf or a Ford Focus RS?

To paraphrase you "a Ford over a Volkswagen eh......hmmmmmm"

Ive not voted hot or cold on this deal, all Im saying is (and I actually go mountain biking rather than riding to school) i would take an air shock, better gears, and a 180mm front brake. The reason is because i want to throw it down a mountain, not impress people with tales of when i didnt go to Halfords.

coil fork, 2013 model.... vrs current models, it's not a particular bargain.

Carrera over a Cannondale eh .........hmmmmm

2015 Fury vrs 2013 SL3?

someone knowing what they're talking about might point out the 120mm travel air fork vrs the 100mm coil; the latest SRAM X5 running gear vrs 2013 alivio, acera, deore; the 180mm front disc vrs the 160mm; the 15mm through axle vrs 9mm etcetc

Not me though, I'd base my decision on the manufacturer only, like you ;o)

Great minds... ;o)

its 600 quid for the 2015 fury

where is the deal for 430

the deore rear gear is still going fine btw on my orange p7 circa 1998
Edited by: "logohigh" 5th Jan 2015

the Voodoo Bizango looks the bargain bike for price atm..even at 599..but am sure a sale is only a weekend away..this is were I would be spending my money and it qualifies for there finance..full deore which I prefer of my sram 5 and a decent airfork..13kg bike which is light at this price

1.5" headtube is something to consider when buying a cannondale, upgrading the fork will come a little bit more costly. I have this bike and its 'ok'.

An opinion on what? That a second hand car would be more beneficial to anyone wanting a bike? You would have to be living in 1970s Britain to know that to get a decent bike is going to cost you at least £300 new...obviously like a car you can get second hand bargains, although I wouldn't recommend anyone getting a £500 car.
