Good price for a brand new lens, but lens buying is one of the few cases where it makes more sense to buy used if you look in the right places. Used copies on eBay and MPB can go for about a £100 less, sometimes more.

Voted hot nevertheless, thanks.

Can't find any stock

I can order in to store for pickup in 2 days.
Says that on the item page for me but when you go through to trolley, it says no stock
can't go wrong with nice, bright 50mm L... great price for that lens. heat 🔆🔆

On a side note.. I didn't know argos stocks professional cameras and lenses

WOWCamera has it for £839.. but I don't think they allowed here as a deal.

Argos sell Canon L lenses? Great price for a new one.
Great price for this, I’ve had this lens for years and that’s the problem, old lens now, I think for bang for buck I’d buy the Sigma f1.4, a lot sharper and faster AF. The stop difference is really not worth the extra in my mind. Heat for the price.

I agree, the Canon is a fantastic lens but for slightly less money the Sigma ART 1.4 has better sharpness and it’s less than one stop difference (not even noticeable).

That said, the resale value on these Canon L lenses is phenomenal.

The colour rendition of the 50 1.2 is beautiful though. There is something beautiful about photos taken with this lens.
Amazing price for one of the best pieces of Canon glass ever made.. reduced because of all the RF glass being released and the upcoming new R bodies. Sold mine a couple months ago for more than this used!!

Probably Canon being desperate and push all these professional lens to non pro dealers Maybe RF50mm f1.2 is not far from launch...

The RF version was released already, it's much better optically, but also bigger and more expensive
Have the average joe 1.8 version. I hope to grab this one day. Though think 1.4 might be a better trade off point.

Had the 1.8 until I killed it (not weather sealed!), changed to the 1.4 and, to be honest, I'm not sure it's a worthwhile upgrade - sure, it lets in ever so slightly more light but optically I'd say it's not *that* much better.
The RF L lenses look amazing but they are so expensive. Until they start releasing R bodies with dual card slots I'll stick to my EF mount bodies and EF lenses.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah I suppose it's diminishing returns. In 10 years we'll probably still be talking about the L lens. Sometimes it's not a lens, more a status / gear head symbol.

The Canon 50mm 1.4 is not great IMO - Sigma ART one is much better
