I am still wary of buying one from unknown retailers... especially when I know the product I am going to buy can be dodgy if not from the right retailer... I'd rather pay the 30gbp to be secure, but that's just me..

Lol warehouse express are a highly reputable company, if you've been in photography for a while you would know this.

waw, someone just resurrected this...

Warehouse Express has a poor reputation. Nuff' said.

Good camera, good lens, alright price.

Still seems a lotta wad now the 600d is hitting our shores.

Can't see it staying above 50,000p for much longer.

It is a good price indeed , but remember that 600D is out so these will keep dropping in price.
Some smaller shops already sell them under 500£ mark.
Still a hot deal though

May you care to mention a few of these shops, also are they UK 550ds?

Also worth noting, the new 600D is essentially the same camera. The only additional features seem to be an external screen (woot) and some funky internal filters. And considering I got my 550D in August last year (from DigitalRev which provides a UK warranty) with a 55-250mm lens (plus normal 18-55 kit lens) for a mere £513. I'd say, check DigitalRev for whatever deals they have these days.

I've already used mine for my fiancée's album cover and filmed 4 theatre shows. LOVE the quality I get with it!!

780gbp now, last year this should hav been even more... 513 is an impossble price for this

You're absolutely right, Logix88. I forgot that that was the price for the camera + kit lens alone back then! I checked my receipt and found that the above package cost £639.99 for the lot. It also came with a gift bag of minor goodies, i.e. carry case, cleaning cloth, memory card holder, etc. etc.

Also, it was from DigitalRev's ebay store. NOT their website. The camera came from abroad and is amazing. I filmed yet another theatre show with it last week and the results are awesome.

Hmm, £100 more than the 450d at Amazon. It is worth the extra £100?

Yes. I've had a 450D for 2.5 years and am looking to trade up to a 550D. 6 more megapixels, greater ISO range, improved lens, plus of course video recording.
The 450D is still a brilliant camera, though - and if you do get one, don't get it from Amazon as they're obviously overpriced (the 550D is £657.46 on there, over £100 more than this deal). I paid around £450 for it but that was 2.5 years ago!
So the improved features are definitely worth £100, but you could probably find the 450D for £200 less if you shopped around. Then the big question is whether you want/need the video feature.

Hey RTi.

Well, I didn't get round the time limit! :P I film with a normal Panasonic (SD7) 1080P camera and the Canon 550D. The Panasonic shoots for the entirety of a show in a static position and the Canon is controlled by myself. It typically needs restarted every 12 minutes. And this can be done fairly quickly with class 10 cards.
When I first read about the 12 minute cut off, it was a bit off-putting because everything else about the camera is so good. But through sheer will and testing everything, I now find that the quality and control I have with the 550D is worth the trade-off.

A couple of weeks back I filmed a show this way and everything went without a hitch. I think it really comes down to the type of person you are, i.e. a get stuck in type or someone worried about minor details.

Hope this helps

Canon have a new 'Spring Cashback' promotion and they're offering a £30 cashback on the 550D.
