Agree olympus for portability, sony FF for a top quality

I use olympus with leica Nocticron 42.5mm 1.2. (85mm) It's absolutely pin sharp fully wide open. One of the best lenses I have used hands down. Could never do that with Canon.

Why do you need such expensive gear when a smartphone can do something …Why do you need such expensive gear when a smartphone can do something similar. E.g. this was taken with an iphone. Okay not so exotic, but the photographic output is similar.[Image]

If you are happy with an iphone, you will never understand or need this Canon camera, which is fine

I wouldn't bother. Canon have lost their way I'm sorry to say. And I was a Canon die hard user for for over 12 years. I'd go Sony or olympus route.

Not bad. But doesn't have the creamie bokeh or the cats eyes character on circles or same colours. Then again most people probably can't see the difference or even care about it

Strangley enough there is a Canon rumour they are bringing micro 4/3 cameras. In an article they said how they love micro 4/3 over their on apsc format.

For portability yes, i dont remember when i used my a99 mark ii last time ( i have most zeiss primes and zooms for a mount), i am using pen-f with 12mm/f2 lens for general walk, pictures are razor sharp, colours are excellent, kit is very light, for travel i have olympus 12-100/f4, all is very light, stabilization is top notch.

I moved from m4/3 to Sony APS-C. The difference in file quality is night and day.
If you want portability use a phone... An m4/3 camera and zoom are only marginally less portable than a DSLR pretty much identical to any CSC.

Sure will be night and day if you used some cheap lens, an m4/3 is very portable when comparing to big full frame kits, APS-C can be heavy as well, the best APS-C system has Fuji by the way, forget sony
Before this derails too far, its a good price but not much of an upgrade (except af) from my 5D mkii. But as above I also have mft and love my Olympus E-M1. BTW to the person with the smartphone, the image is fine, but the areas where the hair is whipped up look odd due to the fake dof effect.

I work with people who use Sony a7iii regularly and I can tell you the olympus em1 mark ii can hold its on if you have quality glass. Unless your blowing photos the size of a bus or need crazy iso capability micro 4/3 is more then enough. I never go above iso 1000 as I can shoot fully open at f1.2. Full frame can't do this as you need to step down because of to much shallow dof. Most people are above f3.5 which means increasing iso. The maths are different on how both are used. Group photos need to be at f5.6 on full frame if your lucky.
On micro four thirds easy at f2.8.

You're completely wrong. I had a Fuji X-E2 at the same time I was using a Sony a6000.
Fuji XF lenses are great, but totally overpriced, the colours are shockingly muted for anything but portrait photography, the AF is rubbish, even on the newest gen Fuji cameras... The new generation of Sony axxx cameras and full frame Sonys are miles ahead of Fuji, in every way.
I realise there seems to be some weird loyalty thing going on with camera users and their favourite brands / formats, but other than for video, m4/3 cameras are yesterday's technology.
I just want the best still photo quality which is why I use Sony E and FE... Sony have the best 4K video too but let's not quibble about that.

Lol its funny cos all the people I know who use a7iii aren't happy with the colours at all. They actually preferred the reacher punch of Canon with better natural skin tones. But I prefer the Panasonic gh5 codec personally for video. But it just shows there is no right or wrong. It's what ever the user prefers. We have much choice now a days so it's a win win for all of us.

Totally agree, just personal preference. I wouldn't be going for Fuji if I wanted punchy colours though, genuinely don't get the love for Fuji X cameras, you can't even pump the colours up in LR/PS, brilliant lenses though.

Yeah it seems a lot of the leica user or people who love pure manual settings love using them. From what i heard they produce the best in camera jpegs for those who don't want to mess with raw.

You could not stand that up against a proper camera at a 9x6 print even. It looks good on screen that's all.

Please there is no wrong or right here, if this is your opinion i respect it, i have my opinion and honestly i dont care about 4k and all this stuff, if you are sold into photography to make video so good luck, actually i have started using sony a7 when was first released, lenses are well overpriced then i moved to a mount with a99, i got top quality glasses almost half price cheaper compare to a mount, size was the issue i got xpro1, but size was an issue as well, i was last person thinking to try m4/3 but once i tried some different lenses i just liked it and this is my main travel camera now

Um, the Velvia JPGs come up pretty punchy lol

Fuji AF has been fine since X-T2/X-T20, I should know spending most of my time shooting pics of kids

I'm happy you found your ideal system. Photography is all about compromise, until every lens is compatible with every camera it'll never be perfect.
I love my cameras and have spent a fortune over the years but find I take more photos with my phone these days as it's always in my pocket, so I appreciate where you're coming from.

Micro 4/3 is extremely underrated. I've been using nearly 8 years for weddings. But it's not for everyone. It's hard for people to jump ship when they have been using a specific brand and style etc for years. Also m43 has best in body stabalisation I have ever seen

Velvia is totally, unnaturally over-saturated for me. I guess it's all about opinions... new-gen AF is okay, not a patch on the new Sonys though.

Olympus em10 Mark ii or Canon 4000d. Go test them in currys, John Lewis etc. Some of the Panasonic bridge are OK as well. Take a sd card with you
Lovely camera, but I decided to upgrade my eos 6d mk1 to eos r with rf 24-105 f4 lens. £2010 from pamamoz which I listed, but mods deleted. I use olympus m4/3 when travelling light and so used to mirrorless and live histogram, going back to 6d was a bit tricky. Loving the eos r but still mastering.
Canon 6D are usually decent enough entry-level Cameras (I used my Canon 6D for a couple of years). But, for those wanting to step their image quality up a notch, then look at a Full Frame camera such as the Sony a9 Mirrorless

Sold my mk1 6d also for a second hand 5d mk3 and it seems a lot better camera.

Check out this site. Lots of advice, reviews and, user forums. Has recommendations for entry level, etc. Helpful perhaps to start with their buyers guides.
