Good price for a good 10M compact

Great camera, great price! Hot!

The Canon IXUS range are awesome and I wouldnt buy any other compact camera.

For anyone with a little more budget also consider the IXUS 100 at £166.

The photo specs are almost the same as the 95 (slight higher rez at 12MP) but the 100 is more compact, better build and has 720P video.

But for a £40 different, not so much of a deal

just ordered one as xmas present. Thank god i dnt need to worry what to get anymore!!

Gr8 camera & gr8 price

We have it, BUT if I was buying again, I'd spend a little more and get the model with HD video - not sure which that is right now, but worth it if u can afford it

Still deciding between this and, for an extra tenner, the Panasonic Lumix FS15 (12MP, 5X Optical Zoom): amazon.co.uk/Pan…1-6

Canons are OK but Pannys are truly great. Don't hesitate, Panny it has to be!

these are really awesome cameras, feel well built too. good price

Canon IXUS range were my favourite digital compact for years, but personally i wouldn't buy another camera that's not ruggedised (some combination of water/dust/drop/crush/freeze proof). the pop out lenses are too delicate, and this seems to be getting worse as Canon use more plastic to cut costs. all my canon Ixus have had to go back at least once for new lenses (camera-repair.co.uk are great!)

you do have to pay a bit more but the best toughened compacts (around £200) are:
Canon D10 (more of a water based camera, best image quality and controls)
Lumix FT1 (more above water suitable, great image quality, fiddlier controls)
Pentax W80 (tough but average picture quality)
Olympus Mju 8000 (toughest, but dying xD card format and also average picture quality)

at lower price, around £100, the closest to tough are probably:
Pentax WS80
Fuji Z33WP
(these are more splash proof only)

I post this only because i happen to have been researching this for someone this Xmas and thought it might be useful. I bought another Ixus last christmas and wish i'd bought a toughened one instead because the worry of breaking them is too much imho for average users. Canon and Panasonic (Lumix) have only just entered this market this year though.

There are a few others like Olympus 6000 and Casio have one coming out in January I think? my bet is that in a couple of years all compact cameras (except really cheap ones maybe) will be ruggedised because it makes them so much more useful, even if you don't use them for sports etc.!

not that price in blue or grey

It will go up back to about £200 after Christmas

Canons usually come out top in picture quality.

You right maybe Panasonic comes with some extra features which are good on paper, but quality of photo plus metal case is great... for my is only Canon or Nikon if you want to buy any camera.. no Samsung, Pany, Sony etc... but it is my personal opinion, I have worked with most of main brands and Canon cames always on top

thanks for the info smiff. repped for your effort.

from reading the reviews i think i will go for the lumix, thanks

just checked out a few vids on youtube, looks about as thick as a 20pk of ciggies. that's fine for me but thanks for the heads up anyway

I purchased this camera for my holidays after many hours of debating, testing / looking at reviews i purchased this one:

Its *really* easy to use much easier than the Panasonic cameras i tried.
The picture quality is top notch the camera is fast and responsive
The control over picture options is also quite comprehensive so if your into photography and have a decent SLR then this camera will grant lots of control over the picture.

If you're planning on doing outdoor pics only such as on holiday then buy the Panasonic as it will get great results. Unfortunately, Panasonic still (how many years have I been saying this?) are not the best indoors/in low light situations. So, buy a Canon otherwise.

I cannot coment on the panny , I am very happy with canon . I have the A1100 and b4 it was A95, always easy to use and great pics.

-or- You can buy the ]Samsung ES55 for £66.97 with similar specs. including face detection and a rechargeable li-ion battery.

After 4 years our Canon ixus 500 went wrong so i replaced it with a panasonic lumix tz5/6? and was gutted after looking at the pics of the kids on christmas morning (pictures taking around 5am so wasnt that bright in f room) they were grainy and real poor quality due to low light levels.

So have now bought a Canon Ixus 120is much better all round camera and the retailer i bought the camera from fixed our old camera, even being nearly 5 years old under warranty as canon had done a recall on them.

Conclusion from posts so far has to be that both Canon and Panasonic are great cameras with pros and cons for each. I don't understand the comment about the Pannys being bulky though - unless it's the TZ series with 10x and 12x lenses.

Re backup, I bought an ex-display TZ4 with a minor fault (broken lens cover) and Panasonic's warranty repair agents were absolutely terrific. Came back very quickly, looking and performing like new. Always a reassurance to know backup is decent.

I agree with your comments on pros and cons; but when I was in Comets the other day all the Lumix models I picked up seemed bulkier than the IXUS 95 not just the TZs. That said provided a camera's no thicker than a packet of cigarettes it'll fit in most pockets.

bl**dy amazon keep pushing the price of the Lumix FT1 up! it's gone from 227 to 236 to 245 now.
amazon.co.uk/Pan…8-1
there are other places with it still closer to £200 though, like camerabox. if you want to risk that shop.

I've just ordered an Olympus 8000 for £216.98 with 3 year warranty delivered from:
buyacamera.co.uk/sea…402
(just noticed their price dropped today, and at amazon it's around £270!).
deciding factor with this one for me is it's the only one that's crushproof and i'm nervous about the waterproofing on Lumix's first waterproof camera.
might post this tomorrow as a new deal if I get time.

that Samsung is interesting at that price, thanks for the link. I'm considering one for someone else. Or you could buy 4 of them for 1 of these toughened cameras, which is worth considering..

Panasonic Lumix FS7 Digital Camera is what i have just got its cheaper and better.

Expired. The prices now range from £122.83 for the silver, to £146.99 for the blue.
