Love my Nikkor 50mm, best value quality lens out there IMO.

Good lens, more than I paid though a few years ago. Still more than worth it and cheapest around I can see new from a decent retailer.

This is a brilliant lens - especially suited for photographing your loved ones during dull UK days. You'll even get some decent shots at night without a flash, if you put the room lights on. I haven't put my kit lens back on my Canon since I bought this.

Can anyone add a photo? I cant do it from the computer at work.

Decent lens for the price. Flimsy, noisy plastic but can't really be beaten for value for money.

that's the cheapest I've seen it for ages!

Lovely little lens for the price, but be advised once you have one prime you'll find it hard to stop.

I'm currently on 12 and finding it hard not to buy number 13, you have been warned

This is great VFM. The image quality is far better than the standard kit lens. and at this price its definately a nifty fifty. I bought themore expensive 50mm 1.4 and havnt put my old kit lens on since.

The 1.4 is less plasticky and a faster lens but is also almost 4 times the price. I guess you have to weigh up whether the investment is worth it for you. The 1.4 is a great lens too and amazon have it for the lowest price ive seen it for in ages:

This was £75 a few days ago. But still a good price

Great lens, but watch out for poor manufacturing.

The first to arrive had air bubbles in the glass for me, the second had dust and a small hair inside and behind the glass where it should be sealed.

Otherwise, had some blinding shots with the lens and really recommend it for all sorts. Just be aware though, that on f/1.8, you will almost certainly notice over time that it doesn't auto focus quite 100% accurately and struggles with sharpness.

But for £65 (when I got mine a couple of years back) and now £80, it's still very, very good.

shame 7Dayshop aren't still selling them at £50 odd like they were a few years back.... glad I got mine when I did... nice little lens for the money.

Agreed. I think I paid £60-65 for my 50 -1.8
Was all good till Canon stuck the boot into 7dayshop

when i get asked what lens should i get i pretty much always suggest this one. for it's price you just can't go wrong.

even though they're plastic they are tough little things. the amount of times i've dropped my current one or the spare and yet they still work perfectly.

and the low light it can work in produces great portraits. means less gear to carry around

It's got a way to come back down yet

Best Lowest Price: £47.99 08/01/2008

hmm got mine for 70odd online 2 years ago. pretty good lens, reccomended.

also have tried the 1.4 which is very nice, get it over this if u have the money

It's been drifting around this price on this and other sites for a while now. But nonetheless it's a great lens, especially for DSLR newbies. Heat added.

Butterfingers!

Best value lens out there which will change your photographs far far more than a new upgraded body! At 1.8 it can be difficult to nail the focus point as the dof is so small but with practice you can get some stunning portraits (I have found head and shoulder is ideal with a cropped body).

Forget the plastic issues, just enjoy the optics.

Thanks for this. What is their customer service like if there is a problem, do people recommend Simply Electronics?

Great lens i used it all the time. Autofocus is a bit naff and noisy but you'd wana manual focus this most of the time anyway.

Dont do it IMO, search the web for reviews! Rather go with one stop. Dont forget Amazon will give you a UK lens, one stop wont.

Best lens in the world ever.

Wow, lenses have gone up in price so much. I bought mine new in Hong Kong for £35 three years ago. Great value for money even at current price though

Are you sure, didn't you notice a slight increase in chromatic abberation ??

Whilst not in any way doubting it's optical performance, from the photo this lens looks awfully cheap & nasty, unlike the Nikon equivalent.

When you buy into DLSR you HAVE to pay out for better lenses. Theres absolutely no point in getting a DSLR if you dont intend to upgrade the glass, body is important but without a good lens you are just wasting your cash, just get a Lumix bridge (and Im no camera snob, I just learnt the hard way that DLSR is expensive!!!)

Awesome lens, am no pro and only bought a dslr to use for general family photography and was using the the kits lens. I was recommended this item by a colleague who said it's an amazing piece of kit for the price. Boy was he right! My kit lens have never been put back on.

I got mine from one stop a couple of weeks ago when one stop was £75.55. I found one for £74.99 elsewhere and asked one stop if they would do it for £70, and they did!

Love my pasta machine, great for ravioli or tagliatelle but it doesn't have any relevance to this Canon deal...... ditto for your Nikkor lens.

This is a great inexpensive lens. Perfect for portrait shots although because it has no IS you either have to have a very steady hand or use a tripod.

Well I'm just in the process of making a shift to DSLR from bridge so this is the first lens I'm buying.

You don't need IS with a 50mm f1.8, if you are average you need a shutter speed of 1/100 sec or faster. If it's still blurred you need to practice squeezing the shutter. Seriously you don't need IS on this lens unless you have really shaky hands.

if you need IS on this lens it's probably too dark

Explain how exchange rates effect house prices, and therefore the correlation your pitiful argument / troll attempt has on the past prices of a camera lens.
Try and keep your answer factual and within a couple of sentences. You ask an adult for help (highly recommended in your case).

Heres a clue FW, it's the exchange rate that's been having the biggest effect on camera kit over the past couple of years.
