yes because a MOD was nice enough to post me a direct message in my inbox, linking to me it.

I've used one of these a few times and they're a terrific lens.
I doubt I'd get the expense application signed for me to buy one, though.
Heat added.

Out of stock

If I ever feel the need to photograph black cats in coal cellars at night (with available light) I'll buy this lens. Until then, I've a lot of other things to spend £900 on!

In an inverted sort of way, I was actually praising this lens. Nothing else comes close in terms of it's light gathering capabilities. As to having voted cold, I didn't actually vote either way. My response was simply a bit of banter - something most folks on this site seem to cope well with. If you accept my explanation, then I'll be happy to give you some heat. If you still feel my attitude was 'cold' then I guess I'll go ahead and vote that way. Your call

Nothing else comes close for light gatgering huh? how about the voightlander f/1.1, or the af Canon f/1.0, or the older manual version or tones of f/0.95 lenses? and thats without talking about the less than full frame f/0.85 or f/0.7 lenses or even speedboosters.

This lens certainly is fast but not the fastest. I used to own it and it's ok but the bokeh quality is a bit cack. its major selling point is that its very fast considering its autofocus and relatively reasonably priced. the manual f/0.95 noctilux is about £7000.

Price only now dropping after a decade as Sigma have brought out there ART series lenses which judging by all the on line reviews are better in almost every aspect and still cheaper than the now reduced canon lens. I love canon and there lenses but there pro series large aperture lenses have and in most cases still are outrageously expensive.

Although its true that the Sigma is sharper and has less aberration it's also only a f/1.4, it's heavier and it's got one of the ugliest bokeh quality around. That latter one is the killer for me as it's why i like wide aperture lenses in the first place.

If you like low light photography then the Canon may still be the best option as it lets in 60% more light than an f/1.4 lens.
