Regardless of whether you own a crop-sensor (APS-C) or full frame Canon DSLR, you could do much much worse than make this your first cheap lens purchase. It’s a step up from the previous version of the Nifty Fifty and the STM motor is good for those recording video on their camera (i.e. it’s a little smoother quieter than the USM motor variants). Voted hot.

I've filmed plenty of video on this and it's been very good once you know you've got to be a bit smoother and stable. Great price.
Great Price, very good lens
I own it its excellent!
Love this lens. So easy as a beginner to get caught up in zoom lenses, wanting more and more zoom, but shooting with this lens can be so much more fun, and delivers incredible results.
Nice bargain. Searching for a lens to get me going just a shame I've just switched over to Nikon.

It's also incredibly noisy when it focuses & therefore you get plenty of noise using it as a video lens.

True, though I use an external mic which helps. I also have a 24-70mm lens which makes even more of a racket to be honest.

There's no doubt it's a great lens for the money making this a hot deal.
A 50mm lens on 35mm camera is good for street photography...It's APS equivalent is a 35mm lens.
£89.99 now. Missed it.
Sony 50 1.8 is much better choice even though slightly expensive.
It's not that price any more!
