Now if it were the IS model... I'd have been all over it!

I can vouch for this lens, got me some great photos!!! but the IS version is on the cards soon hopefully!

I have the f/4 version on my 5dmk2 constantly. An amazing lens that is so crisp and focused.

I favour the F/4 non IS version on my 5D MkII, amaxing bang for your buck. The F/2.8 is still a great lens thou. Heat from me.

IS version is already out (or Amazon is making up). Amazon is doing for 1499 and 1740 (Two versions)

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM Lens

For ultimate sharpness the two to go for are the f4 IS or the f2.8 Mk2 IS. The non IS f2.8 is the least sharp of the 70-200mm range, albeit a great lens in any other company

With a 5DII's big sensor high ISO capability, I personally do not need the weight of an f2.8 lens in this focal length and went for the f4 IS version. Amazing lens that I used to get sharp noise free images inside the O2 area shooting the fairly dark walking with dinosaurs show.

I've got the 100-400mm and am looking for the 2.8 IS USM II but this is still a fantastic lens!

£900!? ya must be jokin me. Ill stick to the camera on my nokia 5800 thank you very much.

I've had this and the f4L IS. Used all canon 70-200s apart from the f2.8L IS II. I can say that this is definitely sharper than the f2.8 IS I, and the f4L at similar apertures. Can't match the f4L IS though. I actually had this for about 6 months, took 10k shots. Went to a camera shop thinking of upgrading to the f2.8L IS I and I was shocked at how lacking in contrast and soft the images were compared to this lens. If you don't need IS, this is a great lens.

plus you need body for that lens : ))

It has been over a year since it's been at this price though...

Cheaper elsehwere.

will it fit on a canon eos 450d?

Yes it will fit your 450d and because you SLR is not full frame but an APS-C one the actual focal length you get is 112-320mm. An APS-C camera can take EF-S and EF mounted lenses but a full frame can only use EF lens.

And, you mate are a snob

Who cares if your snaps are < 5% sharper than average (say a TZ10). Does this make you a better photographer ? Have you any pictures on Flickr ? probably not, your indignation would appear to stem from some deep rooted personal shortcomings and masturbatory tendencies

Relax folks, Canon make quite good cameras & lenses, let's not get too carried away

Funny, is it not that Nikon owners (me inc.) never seem to generate the same vitreole at the slightest hint of criticism

LOL....... pot & kettle come to mind Let's not start a Nikon vs Canon fanboy argument eh?

Unless you need the extra stop, my advice would be to get the 70-200mm f/4 L lens which you can pick up new for £439.

camerapricebuster.co.uk/pro…tml

Great value for money if you can live without IS. I used to have this lens and the IS version and there's little in it for image quality and much cheaper than the IS version.

I just bought this lens myself for £869.11 at Martins Camera Shop.
According to amera Price Buster in Martins Camera Shop its £895.99 and they will give you an extra 3% off if you pay by cheque or bank transfer.

LOL. TZ10 vs 70-200 f2.8L. LMAO. If you actually were a proper photographer and made money from it, you would know that when income depends on it, you need the right tools for the job. Doing sports stuff for various publications NEEDS the features that this lens has. You clearly don't realise the benefits of f2.8 and ring USM. Typical nikon user.....

You won't get L quality in an f2.8 zoom in this range for less. Sure, 70-200 f2.8 IS II is better, but that's almost double the price and for most things this will suffice.

You, being a 'proper photographer' would of course know - incidentally, which publication do you sell your snaps to ?
