This is the best price I have seen this lens for so ordered it yesterday. It is a White Box product (brand new, full warranty but has been split from a bundle). I will post again when it arrives!

That's a good price for an IS lens. I've got a Sigma 70-300 lens at the moment which is very good, but having the IS would be useful. They also do the 50mm for £79.99 which is supposed to be an excellent lens despite it's fairly cheap construction.

Yes, I'm looking forward to it! I got the 18-55mm with the kit and just wanted a bit more! I have finally found that White Balance, ISO, depth of field etc are making sense. Glad you're enjoying the the extra zoom on your Tamron.

I got the Sigma for my 350d from Hong Kong a few years ago, it was about £110 at the time but it is not IS. But results are good, I used it last week to take pics at an event for a charity I help out with. All indoor in low light but having a monopod helps greatly, again a cheap £10 from Amazon.

sorry Sigma!!

I saw that someone earlier posted that Buy a Camera are not to be trusted but that post has been removed from this post. What's happened? Has someone had a bad experience with them!?

Lens arrived today - works well!

Congrats on the new lens, it's a very good price... let's just hope you don't have to return it to Buyacamera! I recently had a bad experience with them -- I bought a new lens which had a severe auto-focus problem. Sent it back for replacement after being told that my postage charge would be refunded, but this never happened. The replacement was NOT a new lens (probably someone else's return) and was faulty. After a long argument on the phone the guy begrudgingly told me to send it back and promised I would get a refund on the lens and both of my postage costs, but more than a week later all they refunded was the lens price.

Terrible customer service, I won't be dealing with them again.

oops...forgot to add my comment!

Sorry you appear to have had issues Marker....and i've read a few negative comments about buyacamera.co.uk but i have to say i had no issues.

I ordered this lens last thursday and it was delivered the day after....i was well please and this is a great lens for the price...

Hopefully i wont have any issues with the lens...

The 50mm lens is really only suited to portfolio/headshots, however its amazing for the price, very sharpe and 1.8 makes it great. Love mine, can'tbe beaten for the money/results.

Might be worth mentioning that if you have an older Canon DSLR it is worth seeing if there is a firmware update to accomodate this lens. Friend of mine bought this lens for her 400D and when she connected it she got the error 99 warning which froze the camera and it cost her onother £100 to get it put right by Canon.

Firmware shouldn't make any significant difference. This is compatible with the 400D regardless of firmware, and error 99 can mean almost anything.

Probably goes without saying but this almost certainly won't be UK stock, which *might* affect your options with service direct from Canon. Hot price though.

I have this lens. It is excellent value for money. Very Sharp for the price.

Buy a camera sell some grey imports. I bought a panasonic camera only to find out the warranty was useless in the uk as it was american stock. Also they offer a 2 year warranty themselves which has a massive catch, if the item goes wrong in the second year then they can decide whether to offer replacement, repair or 50% refund. Which do you recon they would choose in most cases? Your statutory rights allow you more than this ie, 5/6ths of your money back!
Also if you send an item back which THEY cant find fault with then they charge handling costs. All a bit worrying. Lastly, if they go bust then you have no chance of any kind of warranty, even the suspect one they offer.

the 50mm prime is a gem, great pics for a great price. Think i paid about £50 coupla yrs back

Agreed to a point. But, I think that Canon lenses have an international warranty - so this shouldn't be a problem here.

I wouldn't but a camera off this mob however.

Its £159.95 + 2% Quidco on Simply Electronics - I ordered from them a while ago and it came in the retail packaging and also a one year warrenty. Still voted hot as its basically the same price (which is good for this lens), just though I'd point it out

Tried to point this out last night but said a mod needed to approve the post - which presumably they didn't do?

Its also available here for £159.99 with some good bundle prices, i just ordered the lens+filter+case option

I bought my Mrs. one of the samsung ones with two screens (one front and one back) from there for christmas, everything was fine, great price and discount for getting accessories with it. Can't complain at all, but that's just one persons experience I suppose
