Legit because they can't get the best out of their DSLRs so better off with a point and shoot.

What an awful piece of "advice".

You do understand the difference between a mobile phone camera and DSLR?

Hardly worth another post for this horrible 10 year old tech camera when its just down the page at the same price from another dodgy Chinese importer.

Given the comment, I think we already know the answer mate
The majority of people with crop sensor dslrs would be better off with mobile phones. They can't even get their exposure right
why are DSLR lenses 52mm etc as opposed to mobiles being 10mm / why do camera bodys have much bigger mass then mobile phones ???...

- please can people confirm that eglobal centre / tobydeals etc are "dodgy" as in speculative warranty at best or are they ok ? thanks.

The sensor size on mobile phones is much smaller, so the focal length to achieve the same picture frame is smaller. Have a read about crop factor. The pixels on mobile phone sensors are also going to be much smaller, which leads to noisier (grainy) pictures, especially in low or lowish light. Don't take any notice of people claiming that mobile phones can replace DSLRs. Anybody claiming that doesn't know what they're doing with a DSLR, and I say that with as much respect as possible. They're not the right tool for everybody.

Eglobal and tobydeals will generally deliver. You might (will) have trouble with manufacturer warranty, but using a credit card will give some level of protection.
Decent deal, many thanks

Have you seen the quality you get from a P20 pro? petapixel.com/201…ed/

This compares it to a pretty decent camera. I'd be willing to bet, a fair amount, that a normie would get better photos with a p20 and a pro would get very similar at least.

"Both were set with everything in ‘Auto’ mode"

...and therein lies the rub. If all you are going to do is point and shoot, then a DSLR isn't for you. The mobile phone market has decimated the p&s market, which has led to a new breed of 1" shooters like the RX100 and TZ100.

I read a similar article once about the iPhone X Vs RX100. Again, right at the top the 'Auto mode' disclaimer was clear, and the outcome was largely the same. "Let's put aside the fact that the dedicated camera that is obviously better, let's just be amazed at how decent the phone is."

These articles are utterly pointless, except to highlight that modern phones can take very good pictures for "normies" as you put it, or a handy companion for a photographer to take a very quick shot.

The funniest thing about this is that P20 isn't even the best mobile phone camera let alone be better than DSLRs. Point and shoot, you get compact 1" cameras. For detail, sharpness, your desired shot, editing, enjoying the moment, exposure shots etc you get DSLR. For convenience, social media (instagram, facebook), not having to edit etc, you get a mobile phone. Each has their own Pros and cons. However, it is very stupid to compare mobile phones to this. Its like wanting to make mash and comparing a potato to an onion because they are both vegetables.

Yep. What amazes me is that the complaints about this 4000D centre around build quality and the dated sensor. The build quality is a bit questionble, having a plastic lens mount, but the sensor is still quite capable. The other stuff that this camera lacks is some of the more clever AF functions, a touch screen, and a super fast bust mode. But that's because the thing has been built to be as cheap as it can be, and if you are looking for to get into photography, these are probably distractions you don't need while learning "the trinity", in my opinion.

Yeah totally agree with you. Likelihood is, it will take you a couple of years, to be at a good level with photography. If you get a fancy camera and chuck it in "auto mode", you won't learn much anyway and there isn't much point in having it (imo) as you'd be better off with a Point and shoot. This camera at this price is an absolute bargain i would say. Get to learn photography, inexpensive, see if it suits you, then go for something. And even then actually, you would want to upgrade the lens before you will the body. For me, touch screen is a bit of downer actually. You'd prefer hard buttons, especially on cold days rather than touching the screen all the time. The burst mode I never really understood its desire, unless you are photographing very fast moving subjects.
It's only when a friend of mine told me he still uses a Canon 60D and i saw his pictures and thought that basic bodys can do a lot.

What is so horrible about the tech at this price? Regardless of the tech's age it's still a very full featured DSLR at a very fair price point. What would you recommend at the same price point?

You will not get a DSlR apart from this one at this price point. I went for a sony rx100 you can get the original for around this price. Its older tech but the quality is superb without the size or need to change lenses.. Not a DSLR but a very good quality camera.
So how can you get better pics from these cameras and how much skill do you need to get the most out of them?

I was looking at this, Canon 1300 and Nikon D3400
I went for the Nikon, i preferred the way it felt when i held it. Just seemed to be more comfortable for me.
All at this price point are built to a price and seem to compromise on spec compared to their bigger brothers.
As an entry to DSLR they all had their plus points.
I am using auto mode and taking the same shot with different settings to get an idea of what each setting does in real life.
As no film is wasted taking lots of shots isnt a problem nowadays.

Absolutely. I've got a Mark IV and it's a brilliant little travel camera. Shame the Mark 6 has to trade off some of the brightness of the lens for a longer range, but I guess you have no choice in a compact form factor. Also got a TZ100. Nice backup for long shots on safari etc. but not a patch on the RX100 for everything else.

thankyou! although i was being sarcastic in view of people saying mobile phones have better cameras, then 450g cameras...

i sold my old d3300 a while ago, would like a new dslr - don't care canon / nikon, looking at 4000d as seemis money off for slightly less mp (don't care), no touch screen (bonus) vs 2000d... cheaper then nikon (dont care).

to my eyes nikon just looks like a slightly more exposed / colour enhanced canon... (nothing that windows photo viewer can not do in either direction...).

would be nice to have a 4000d but not a broken shitty one...

Why would you buy an expensive phone that is geared primarily towards its expensive Leica triple lens, 3x optical zoom photo abilities and 40mp imaging capacity (or 76.2MB DNG RAW files) if you only want to talk on it..............
