the 15% discount promo code you have to add when you reach step 5 before you confirm payment is 123

That's an amazing price for a really great camera. Yes the 450D is coming out, but if you don't need Live View this is great stuff.
H&RA.

Great Price!!! I bought this camera a month ago on the tesco deal for £303 something with cash back and free bag. Be a proper SLR user and look through the windowto take an image, 450D is out now and good but not worth £300+ so forget the live view.

isnt the cashback from canon only for the lens kit version?

Agree with Workid. Live view is completely undervalued but if you don't use it ...........buy.

What type of lens would you guys suggest as a good alrounder if i bought this?

mmmmmm

BTW, Quidco should not be included in the price. It's £256.75, good price if you want to go with Canon. Remember, you are buying a system and not just a camera.

Hi Titchimp, I got the kit lens originally but v soon decided to upgrade. I got the Tamron 17-50 to replace it after reading lots of reviews online for various lens options. Have been very pleased with it.

I also got a sigme 10-20 recently for landscapes specifically, which is well known to be great, but doesn't replace the kit lens really. The Tamron is good for portraits or landscapes.

any lens recomendations?

The two lenses i use with my 350D are a 55-200mm tamron lens (very good for short range) and a 170-500mm sigma (for aviation)

I can't find the 200mm any more though

some tamron is good, i have their 70-300 which i bought 2nd hand from my bro for £40....would recomend the canon 50mm - bargain for £60 new....also a speedlight 430 or 580 as the flash is **** (but miles better than any point and shot tho)
just about to buy my first decent lens the canon 24-70 L - its awesome, expensive (£750-800) but worth the money
never heard of this company tho

Canon 50mm f/1.8 II - great optics, at f/8 equalling the sharpness of an L lens - and its £65 off Amazon.

No just Scrooge would do me fine lol

Cheaper than second hand on eBay!

I'd agree with those who recommend going with the 50mm - a very cheap optically fine piece. Primes all the way!

Prime's often are very very cheap for the quality they produce, mine lives on the camera pretty much.

Whatever anyone does, avoid the kit lens!

Wow oh wow, what a deal!

while many people will think it sad for asking them if they could add rep i must stress that it does take time to find a good deal and then post it on hukd,

HUKD is a great place to find bargins and deals i hope many people saved a lot of many using this deal.

Added rep. Shame . . I bought this cam last year for £150 more! Worth every penny though

Here's an example shot using kit lens:

John Lewis were doing this at £385 INC lense just before xmas, then there was the £50 cashback from canon =£335
It is an extremely good camera as I purchased on the above and the lense which comes with the full version is adequate for most users but you do still require an external flash to get the full benifits from it (the built in one still produces red eye) also dont forget a case £££ all add up!

Just a quick check.

Are the afiliate links on this item going through HDUK's account or the OP's??

Does anybody know if this camera would work with my EOS 850 lens?

This camera will work with Canon EF lenses so take a look at what you have on your EOS850 and see if it is marked "EF".

Note that the sensors in these (and many other DSLRs) are smaller than a 35mm film frame. That means that the camera will crop the image so if you have a 50mm film lens on this camera it will have the field of view of an 80mm lens on a full frame or film camera. That really isn't a problem once you know about it, it is common in DSLRs and full frame DSLRs are rediculously expensive.

good deal and good find H&R added;-)

So, as an SLR beginner, buying this, along with ]this 50mm lens would be better than the 400d kit lens?

I think the kit one would be better as it has a zoom facility on it
A good selection of lenses for the camera can be found here
warehouseexpress.com/cat…077
I upgraded form the kit lense to this one and have to say if you can afford it the quality is fantastic
warehouseexpress.com/pro…838

H&R added - ordered one to replace my 300D.

Silly question, I'm sure, but I have an old Canon AE1 with 3 or 4 lenses. I guess there's no chance of the lenses working with this body?

good price ,you can also get 6.5% cashback if you go by

cashbackkings.com/

you have to pay £5 yearly charge like quidco, though it seems to pay higher cashback

The kit lens is an 18-55mm f3.5 to 5.6 EF-S Zoom. The lens you linked us a 50mm f1.8 prime lens. In general the kit lens will give you the option to take wider angle shots and to frame pictures by zooming in or out a little. The 50mm won't let you do that but with f1.8 it will let you take better shots in darker conditions and prime lenses typically give better image quality than zooms.
Because these cameras crop, the 50mm lens has the field of view that an 80mm lens has on a full frame camera and the 18-55mm has the field of view of a 29-88. On that basis the 50mm is probably more suited to portraits and the 18-55 includes the wider angle capability you'd need for landscapes too.
There are advantages and disadvantages in each but you can always buy other lenses later.

Purchased, great deal. Will get the 50mm f1.8 later.

Thanks.

Nice price, but for my needs the following Tesco deal was plenty good enough for me:

Samsung GX-1L Body (6.3mp)
18-55mm lens
50-200mm lens

£225, which after Clubcard points value and GreasyPalm ended up as £196

The 50-200mm lens is an easy sell-on at £110 on eBay.

Gave me a good starter D-SLR with lens for a total of £86 :whistling:
