Can I buy this in HEATHROW terminal 3 ? I am going away next Thursday...Good price lol

Sure it's a 40D?

AFAIK, there is no remote for that camera aside from a cable switch or the very expensive (£300+) wireless LC-5.

Can't find it anywhere on their site either so if it is indeed a 40D, then maybe a local clearance item.

This is a review by a buyer on Amazon.co.uk where its listed for £850.

Having delayed moving to a DSLR for a number of years, I feel the market … Having delayed moving to a DSLR for a number of years, I feel the market has now stabalised in the way of features, and prices have come down considerably.I started looking at the 350D then the 400D and then the 450D, but luckily decided to opt for the 40D, especially as the additional price over the 450D seemed justified for the extra build. To be honest the features of the 450D are not that far behind the 40D, although what you are paying for is mainly the build quality - die cast aluminum and stainless steel body, etc.Similar to the 450D the 40D includes a 'live view' function, which you may feel is essential if you are used to a compact, although in reality you are unlikely to use very often. The lens is very good and another reason why I opted for the 40D over the 400D or 450D, although I believe the lens on the 450D is superior to that of the 400D.You get a 17 - 85mm, which in old SLR terminology relates to 28 - 135mm. It is very quiet in operation, being a USM lens, and also includes IS (Image Stabilisation) which does reduce the effects of camera shake, especially in low light conditions, by up to 4 stops. The stabilisation is actually in the lens which may seem odd compared to other lens/camera manufacturers, although it does mean that the image you see through the viewfinder has been stabilised as opposed to other systems which only appear stabilised after you have taken the photo.Camera is intuitive and easy to use in fully auto mode, until you become familiar with all the manual features. This is a large camera, especially suitable for those with larger clumsy hands!I have no regrets whatsoever and would recommend to anyone who is above the amateur, or at least thinks they are, who wishes to pay that extra to own a higher quality 'fully loaded' product.Don't be put off by 10+ mpg image; this is sufficient for images up to at least A3 if not even A2. Last point - I have purchased the Sandisk 4GB Extreme III card which I believe is an excellent choice having researched just about every other card out there. Really no need to go above 4GB as this is sufficient for 999+ jpg at the highest quality. Unlike compacts there is no facility for recording mpeg video so no need for big cards. For those tempted, don't delay your purchase - you will not be dissapointed.

While this may be a good deal indeed... You are only really paying for a bit of extra build quality (Die cast aluminimum) as opposed to a Strong ABS which the 450D supports.

You however, do lose out on some features including 2mpx.

Ive voted hot anyway as its an excellent price... But I wouldnt say its a better camera than its little brother by a long shot.

You can pick up 450D for £400 posted these days.

With the same (£300) lens? ;-)

you're forgetting the lens is worth £280 on it's own...the one bundled with the 450d is a £80 lens...so it's a hot deal which ever way you look at it...i'd take this over a 450d (well i would if i didn't already own a 450d that is)

The 40D handles way better and faster than the 450D, it's not just the construction that's different!

great buy, thanks for listing, voted hot.

I had a 40D for about 18 months and took around 12k photos with it. I've recently upgraded to a 5D Mk2 and sometimes miss the 40D.

This is one of the MANY photos i took last year of Moraine Lake in the Canadian Rockies.

Nice shot. Any post processing on that mate?

breath taking scene, if there was ever a sales pitch... go buy one!

40d at this price with the kit lens (which isn't that bad piece of glass either) is a bargain, mine gets a lot of use. Can't be compared to the 4xx or 500 series either, different pieces of kit altho still good cameras in their own right.

where to get 450D for 400 pounds ??!

Great camera, great price. I picked mine up last year, 40D with the 17-85 IS USM lens. Also got it from Dixons tax free, it was £730, and at the time the cheapest it could be had elsewhere was £860. Luckily Canon were also pushing the cashback, so I ended up getting £140 back, total cost was £590!

Great camera. Yes, the 50D is out now, but this is still good. I regularly make A3 prints from this.

Not everything in Dixons tax free is a bargain - some are overpriced. Do your research beforehand rather than impulse buy in the airport while you are bored and delayed!

I would have thought this is a clearance price.

the 40D is a great camera, excellent for shooting at a high FPS. Sports photography etc.

The lens is ok, great colours and sharpess is ok. You will notice the vignetting and masive barrel distortion tho. Which is a major letdown.

I would buy this just to sell on the lens. You would be getting about £2/250 for it on ebay. Which would land you a nice 40d for £350!!

Good find.

I dont think this price will be the same in 4 weeks.

ive had a 40d for over a year, 1st one did 17,000 clicks then shutter died, new shutter going strong 1 yr later and 34,000 clicks, at 6fps its easy to do :-)

Brilliant camera by the way

Yer, my 40d was too much for me so I got a 450d and kept the lens. Im selling it at the moment. Dont get on with the 17-85

Around xmas time I'm this went down to about £700 because the 50d came out and canon were offering cashback!! I was looking at getting one in jan, then the price went back up.

Is there something you know about the price dropping, I'd like to get one to replace my 400d, but I'm not away again until November, so I have time to wait until the price drops!

Which airport did you (s4nju) buy from?

remote is RS-80N3 which is connected via cable.

there is no link to the camera. you have to call them and they will tell you if they have stock and hold it till you fly and collect.

try posting in the requests section rather than hogging someone's deal :whistling:

I'm off to gatwick next tuesday, do you think there'll have some there?

I'd like a 40D as a backup to my 5D Mark II

If I had £600 to drop on DSLR kit I'd buy the Nikon 18-200VR lens and a 2nd hand D40.

Just to confirm ... Is the only way to shop at Dixons tax free if you are flying to a non-UK destination or can i go visit just to pick up this camera?

Thanks OP - Great deal.
