Be gentle, first deal.

I know this is only of use to anyone flying somewhere, but as someone who's been watching the Amazon deals and eyeing the old Sep 30 deadline (now extended to Jan 2009!) for purchases to claim the £50 cashback (http://www.canon.co.uk/eoscashback/), this was ideal for me.

The kit is £479.99 but with £71.49 airport discount it comes out at £408.50. No restrictions on destination either, I've just bought whilst doing an internal hop.

At the same time you can buy a bundle comprising a Canon EF 70-300 F4-5.6 IS USM lens, a Canon DSLR bag and a Sandisk Ultra II 4Gb SDHC for £264.37 - the lens alone retails for ~£360 on Amazon so good eBay potential I think.

I wasn't aware they'd updated the cashback deals, excellent, thanks Jimbo

ps If anyone is going to an airport and wants to pick me one of these up, there'll be a few drinks on me!

wonder how long it will be at this price for.

I'm going to New York in November, so could get one then

If you are going to NYC in Nov I'd check out prices there as Canon cameras and equipment are definitely cheaper in the US. Only not sure about Canon's international warranty when buying Camera's from the States. Lenses should be fine though.

I bought an IXUS 900XTi compact digi canon there over 18 months ago and the camera STILL hasn't come down to the same price in the UK. Would have bought a digi SLR but I couldn't decide which one. I now have the 450D as well and love it!

Voting HOT HOT HOT as this is a great price for the 450D!

i got one in the summer at manchester airport:thumbsup: Excellent camera and i good choice if your passing through!!

I rang them a week before travel though to make sure there was one waiting for me;-)

Manchester T2 number to reserve: 0161 437 7091

I did this in the Summer and with Cashback worked out at £375!!!

Great camera, but I am a total noob with SLR's!!!!!!

Anyone got any tips with regards to new lenses (what type and where to buy from???

Ta,

why is this expired?

I'm going to buy a Canon EOS for my trip in November - if this is still available in 6 weeks I'll just buy it in the airport on my way, but just in case, if anyone can pick one of these up for me it would be much appreciated :-)

Why not just book a free ryanair flight at the start of october if they fly from your local airport. A quick domestic flight and you're quids in

I don't really have a local airport - I think it would cost about £40 for a return train ticket to get to the nearest one, and then that's if I can get a free flight from there. And I haven't heard about ryanair free flights - are they return? It doesn't seem like travelling to an airport, flying somewhere, waiting, flying back, travelling home is worth it. I might as well pay full price for the camera as go to all that time and effort and money. It's ok if you're already going somewhere and can pick one up on the way, but getting a flight just to be able to get this deal? I'll just hope it's still available in the first week of November then...

Yes Ryanair are free until tomorrow night
bok any ticket that is free check in get your camera airside and walk back out if anyone stops you say family emrgency

is it me or the canon 450d has been removed from products in that website?? i can see others incl. nikon d60 vr kit which is also a good price though...

Just a note that if you are flying within the EU you still get it at the "VAT Free" price (not really VAT free, they just discount it so the price you pay is the same) and you can leave it at the airport for collection on your return.

If you don't want to go to the airport, check this website out..

This is true... and here's a further handy hint:

Because they simply reduce the price - they will also give you a VAT receipt (if you ask for one) showing 17.5% VAT has been paid (on the reduced price)! ie, if this is a business purchase you can claim it back from the tax man!

eg. Normal shop price is £117.50
Dixons tax-free price is £100.00
After claiming back VAT, price is £85.11

This is incredibly good for small business purchases etc, such as laptops!

Silly question, but could you buy this when coming back into the UK ?
My partner is already out in Ibiza atm, but she will be coming back on saturday.. could she go in and buy one then ?

Thanks!

Yep, that's right! Been done many times by myself and my old man. The last time was 4 weeks ago at Stansted.

Obviously only good if you're VAT registered of course - and that your purchase is for business purposes :-)

Does this also include the additional £50 cashback making it £358.50?
also the dixonstaxfree.co.uk site does not show the 450d on the site when i searched.

I emailed Dixons about this last week, if the camera is not available at your local airport then it can be ordered in advance so you can pick it up ay Dixons when you pass through.

I was going to go for it as I'll be flying out again in a few weeks, however Currys were doing the same camera for £432 last weekend, I decided that was close enough as I did not really want to wait to use it.

Ended up buying it from Jessops though as they were happy to price match Currys.

i found two amazon market place sellers selling the new 450d kit for @£446. Has anyone used these and got the cash back offer or does the camera need to bebought from recognised dealers?
This would make the price £396

I'll wait on the Nikon D90

Not sure about the Amazon thing.

But the likes of Jacobs online do the kit for £449 and through Quidco you get 5% back then the £50 from Canon, they may have a delivery charge though.

Otherwise you can just test your bargining skills in the high street, I'd be surprised if you don't get something off at the moment, or at least get something thrown in.

Edited due to stupidity, should read £449 not £499, doh!.

This was still available in Heathrow today.

This seems to be a bargain, £408 plus the £50 canon cashback offer now extended to end Jan 2009 = £358. Been looking for one for ages and flying next month! Lets hope this still have them on offer....or even cheaper! Always avoided Dixons at the airport as ALWAYS more expensive than everywhere else but this is a deal!

Any idea on other LENS bundles available? The one noted seems good.
