I just got this from Curry's for £250 (ex display) and I love it. okay it's a couple of years old now, but at this price it's a decent deal. hot.

I'd pay an extra £30 and go for the IS lens kit

Hot. :-)

Still a very good camera and a great price.

Three years isn't really that old when it comes to cameras, and its successor models aren't exactly an enormous step up. I'd choose a 600D over a newer, entry level £300 DSLR any day.

Lets face it, It's all about B grades from CEX with this stuff.

The A grade one is £300 squids. I dont mind the odd scratch and dent - means I'm less likely to be upset when it dies or gets stolen or lost.

I don't trust Cex what so ever! Much rather get it from Canon refurb!

Would you honestly notice the difference on an 18-55mm kit lens? unless you've got serious problems keeping your hands still?

You would notice in terms of image quality if nothing else... the IS lens was a big step-up from Canon in comparison to the older non-IS model.

If it was ex display at Currys I doubt they will have another.

I agree from an image perspective the IS has slightly better optics to the older kit lens. But people new to photography are unlikely to know this and will just see the "IS" name and think it will be all singing and dancing, but on such a small lens stabilisation is neither here nor there and the benefits are not from the IS itself.

Depends what you're shooting, and in what conditions... if people are wanting to hand-hold at 55mm in low light then they could be looking at a relatively high ISO to get a shutter speed of at least 1/80 - 1/100 to ensure a clear shot without IS (it's what f5.6 at 55mm?). With IS you could bring that down to about 1/10 - 1/25 whilst also lowering the ISO, which is nice. Obviously that doesn't work if you're photographing something that's moving, but IS certainly has it's place, especially with slow lenses. Personally I don't own any lenses with IS, but if someone offered me the equivalent lenses with IS then I wouldn't turn them down... just need Canon to manufacture them first

I've upgraded my lens but found the IS handy for taking slow shutters of water when not carrying tripod

Purchased the last one with the IS lens kit.
I was hoping for the 650D but my friend told me there is very little difference between the two. Plus I had a budget of £300 max, so I think I got the best considering the amount I had available to spend

Yeah, good point. Because if something is old it can't be a good deal. I guess you vote all the great XBOX 360 and PS3 deals down because they are old consoles now, regardless of their price?

OT - I have the 600D and it is an awesome piece of kit. This is a great price for a great starting DSLR for people wanting to get into a brilliant hobby.

I've got canon 700d for £319 ( body only) ordered yesterday from portus digital. We'll see...

great price if its a canon you are after, so heat added. it makes sense to go for the best sensor in the lowest price body so you can invest in decent glass. personally I think the sony a58 and nikon entry range models have better performing sensors.....controversial?

Its not just old though, its dead-end prehistoric tech.

Its like buying an old model iPad or CRT TV.
