Must be one of Amazon's Black Friday deals as this is the cheapest it has been available as far as I know.

Amazing that people still buy these for £400+. I used to love my 600D (almost the same camera, bought about 5 years ago) but things have moved on a lot since that 18MP sensor was first used in the EOS 7D 8 years ago.

what do you reckon is the good price for such then? What do you consider the "latest" on which I can spend circa £500?

If you want a newer beginner friendly Canon then the 200D + 18-55MM lens can be had from John Lewis for £469 including cashback. It is a slightly smaller form factor though.

If you are prepared to go with mirrorless instead then the Sony A6000 + 16-50MM lens can be had for £419 after cashback also from John Lewis.

Just found a good deal on Canon Eos 77d, mid range DSLR, at £629 on Amazon and £170 cashback makes it £459. Cheapest i've seen it thus far.

How did you get 170 cashback? I thought it was only 85 back on the 77d?

£85 Voucher (Check the box on the webpage and it's applied at checkout) and £85 claim back from Canon after purchase.

£85 cashback for the 77D across all retailers except Amazon has an £85 voucher too,

It is double cashback....You have a voucher to the right of the camera image, select that for £85 cashback applied at check out. Scroll down to the circle that says cashback for info on claiming a further £85 cashback from Canon UK. Are you guys looking at the Amazon page?

That quote i am giving you is for body only, but it's also available on the body and lens listing.

Hi,
I take this is the 200D from John Lewis. Reviews well. Was thinking of buying one but some reviews bemoan the basic 9 point AF system. Being new to photography is this something I need to look out for and will it hold me back?

Yea, been looking at the 77D since this deal was posted (thanks for the post). Bought the 77D with kit lens (mainly for for video) Great stuff

[edit] Probably would have went the 200D if it had more than 1 cross type AF point

Thanks for the quick replies. Does anyone know if I can get the cashback from canon if I buy it in the UK but Im living in Switzerland? I would just send the recipt to Amazon UK right, they dont need to know where I live?

Just saw now they need an address from the UK
Double edit: . All Participants must be aged 18 or over and must be resident in the European Economic Area or Switzerland (“EEA”) (“Participant”).

So I am eligible then?

It depends what kind of photography you think you’ll enjoy most. If you want to photograph fast moving action/sports then something like the 200D is not really a good choice. But for more general photography (landscapes, portraits etc.) the AF system is likely adequate, especially if you are a beginner.

I would read their terms and conditions, it may stipulate you need to reside in the UK, have a read and see what they say.

Sounds like you are, but to be 100% sure you'd need to call them....But by then they may have sold out....:-(

Thanks again. I will be taking action photos, my daugher dances and runs so I want to take a good action shot. I've had a look online and a compartive camera is the Nikon D5600. I think that ticks all the boxes, but I do like my Canon camea having owned one years ago. Could you recommend an alternative Canon?

As mentioned by vialli34 the 77D is about £670 on Amazon with the voucher code after cashback and would definitely be worth considering. If you want something a bit cheaper, the 750D is basically a significantly updated version of the 700D originally posted here and can be had for about £520 after cashback.

I would recommend going to the DPReview.com website which has detailed information about all the different cameras and their differences.

If you're after an alternative then have a look at the Pentax K-70, body only currently £499 with coupon and you get a Pentax 50mm f/1.8 with it, one retailer has a memory card thrown in too. That's where I'd put my money.
