I can confirm canon are indeed killing their customers with their system. When you take a photo it lets some of the light through the sensor and into a mysterious filter. In secret quarters Canon call it the noise disembilothonic capsule drainer. This filter does something untold and horrific and slowly kills the customer. If you buy a canon expect your average age to be about 80. You've been warned.

Sorry the 10% part isn't clear.
You have to have an Argos store card which is free which I already had
They sent me a 10% discount on most items not just cameras when you use your Argos card they then offer you 12 month free so if you pay £42 a month and pay before the time is up its interest free if not interest is charged from when you purchased the camera

I would say avoid this deal, the 70-300 is awful

I'm a Canon customer and I live to tell the tale

Phew. I'm glad there's a survivor left to uphold their good name .
I'm not sure about the price for this deal, but personally I'd avoid the 70-300. Pick up a used 55-250 instead. I got one for about £90
Those saying 70-300 is aweful, just make sure you dont get the 75-300 as some of the ad says, cuz that's a hell of a lot worse and def not worth the price of this deal
Can anyone confirm if you actually definitely get the 10% voucher on sign up of the store card or did OP just get this by chance? Not very clear

???? Canon always have been and are solid cameras. I don't think what your saying (even in the un-likely chance it is true) would threaten someone buying a camera with two lenses for under £500.

If you really knew about camera tech you'd at least say that Fujifilm takes the best image!

This camera is great for the price, don't listen to the haters!! HOT

RE lenses. The 18-55 will be useful but the 75-300 won't. Id keep the 75-300 to one side (un-used) and trade it in for something a bit better.

Your spelling's "aweful"
eBay the 70-300mm and use the money to get a fast prime lens like the 50mm f1.8 STM (good copies can be found for less than 100). Paired with the 700d (APS-C format, so 1.6x crop factor), should provide a good 80mm lens suitable for portraits.
Cold. Reliant on credit for this price

Dont confuse this Canon 70-300 lens with the slightly more expensive Canon EF 70-300 IS USM lens. I have that and think it's fab. A few examples below.
Anyhoo, the deal looks pretty good to me. As said, sell the basic 70-300, and get something better.
I bought my 550d about 6 years ago for a similar price to this with just the 18-55 lens.

As for comments about the 50mm 1.8 lens, I have that lens but rate the 40mm over it.
I've been thinking about getting a DSLR camera because of the issues camera phones and compacts have

Any tips and buying recommendations for a newbie like me?

The reason i've never gone for a DSLR camera in the past is the size, these things are massive
If there's any other camera (mirror-less cameras?) that can take equally good pics as DSLRs then that could be an option too

Most DSLR owners will have multiple cameras. I don't take mine on holiday, I use a Sony RX100M3 which I also carry round with me most of the time. Its not as good as my DSLR but aint bad either.

Thanks, funny you should mention the RX100M3, i nearly bought a RX100M1 not to long ago, it's a few years old but has a nice big sensor for low light
does the code work on TV's by any chance?
What is the code ?

Are they offering 10% off all cameras when you sign up for a store card?
The 10% for me came in the post it was for most items in store only ( I don't have the voucher now so can't remember all details) I would presume if you sign up in store for the Argos card they may give you the voucher if you explain you know other people have got it once you sign up for it. Also after you buy your item the Argos card (if it's over a certain amount ) gives you the option of buy now pay in 12 months but if you pay an amount each month it gives you interest free for 12 months
I bought a laptop from Argos last year, and I got told if I sign up for the credit card, I would get 10% off on the Laptop if I signed up for the card. I did this in-store.

After filling in the application form, they rejected my application form, which meant I could not make use of the 10% discount on the laptop. 2 weeks later, Argos sent me my *approved* credit card through the post - I lost out on the discount for the laptop and got another credit card - which I did not activate and cancelled straight away.

they said to me the 12 mouth interest free is on all large purchases and does not require any mouthly payments as long as you pay before the end of that 12 mouth?
That's correct but Iam paying off my 494 monthly to make sure I don't get interests charges as I can pay off what I like when I like before the 12 months is up and can budget this

Their latest offerings are pretty much worse than what nikon offer at the same price points. Pretty simple really, unless you already have a load of cannon lenses.
