this one or sony a6000

The A6000, £100 cheaper, quality viewfinder, faster focusing with better tracking, sensor has better dynamic range, many more lenses, focus peaking and 11 frames/sec vs 7. The only plus for the Canon is the touch screen and if you have a bunch of canon lenses to use with the adapter.

Interesting! I have an M3 and really like it but this m6 has way better focussing
Worth adding that this is supposedly £100 off the usual price

It's bout 80-90 going by camel tracking.

I meant Argos have knocked £100 off their prev price.
Possibly better off with a Panasonic DMC-GX80 as currently £449 with £50 cash back from Panasonic so £399. The addition of an electronic viewfinder and wider set of lens make this hard to beat.
I'm tempted by the a6000

I used to have the gx7, it was a great wee camera
Been a Canon man for over 40 years , to me Canon is camera company Sony and Panasonic make TV's . Yep I know Sony sought Minolta and rebranded it as Sony. I do have several Canon lens so this would appeal to me on that basis and as I've said in another thread Video is a bonus not a primary function of a "still " camera so doesn't really interest me .
Anyone use one of these and the adaptor with a EF or EF-S lens?

im not sure here but do you actually know what you are talking about?
other thread you said ' I assume the video fraternity still use purpose made cameras'
do you? or do you know? which ones? etc

I'm sure you can google video cameras , I have no interest in them . I was just pointing out that in every thread about a still camera someone has to say it's no good for videos as it's not 4k etc .. Bit like telling me a sports car is no good for carrying a fridge back from Currys , it's not it's primary funtion.

so i was right - you have no idea
I've had this since April and this is a great deal! Was nearly £900 a year ago I think. The autofocus is the new dualpixel technology which is unbelievably good, years ahead of competition. Another advantage is the colour science that canon has as compared to Sony. I'm often using nifty fifty on it with an adapter and that works great. The pictures look great and you can get a good bunch of relatively cheap lenses, granted not as many as sony has natively. I'm very happy with the camera, just wish it had 4k video!

so the AF is 'years ahead' by becoming similar to cameras from years ago?
thats years behind to me.

good camera though and voted hot
It's not similar AF, it's completely different. All of the other manufacturers have been working on improving the same technology (phase detection and contrast detection), but Canon came up with completely new tech. The huge difference is especially evident in video or tracking. Try googling Dual Pixel AF, it's quite fascinating.

For portraits and kids Canon for landscapes Sony. Sadly no viewfinder. I would go for M5 body only for this same price ( grey market)

Gx80 have smaller sensor bad dynamic range and it's quite heavy, but it has also build in stabilization and nice 4k.

i am talking about the results not the tech - why the hell would i talk about the electronics when thats irrelevant?

all cameras with the same tech have the same standard of AF? no

You can get the same results with manual focus as well, why bother with AF... of course the tech is important! I would encourage you to actually try the different technologies...I've shot a lot with both A6000, Canon M3 and this Canon M6 and there is a huge difference.

omg ... are you being deliberately dense?
ofc the tech is important but only in the way it gives a result, its about the implementation of it as well as the core tech

still, its good that you are posting how this is years ahead of a 3.5year old camera

M5 body only
Although still not in stock, Amazon now have added an instant £50 off voucher to this camera, applied at checkout. This is in addition to the Canon £50 cashback.
Argos are now offering the 50 off too. Ended up going for a laptop, I love photography and have owned a good few cameras but I am a gear head and would end up obsessed again and upgrade and buy numerous lenses. Going to focus on something else instead.
